First Annual Pizza Wars, 'A Success'
The title of Norwood's best cheese pizza goes to...
The First Annual Norwood Pizza Wars to benefit the Norwood Nuggets Youth Hockey Program was a success, according to Norwood Nuggets board member Chris Larson.
Over 400 people turned out to the Coakley Middle School last Saturday afternoon, many stopping by between baseball and soccer games, to sample pizza and cast their vote for Norwood’s s best cheese pizza.
Local pizza shops - Abbondanza, Bertucci’s, Conrad’s, Express Pizza, Giorgio’s Pizzeria, Papa Gino’s, Old Colonial Café, Pizzas Galore, Pizza Palace and Santucci’s - enthusiastically contributed their time and twenty of their best, hand-tossed pies for this friendly competition.
“All the shops were incredibly accommodating and happy to help the cause. I can’t thank them enough," Larson said.
Larson would also like to thank all of the Nuggets who helped in every phase of the event. From planning and promoting to running and cleaning up, the event would not have happened without the help of the Nugget volunteers.
“We had a bunch of families chip in and bake goodies to sell and about twenty moms, dads, and skaters turned up to help dish out the pizza. It really was a great day,” Larson said.
Larson described the race for best pizza as “very tight, but very fun.”
And the winner of the First Annual Norwood Pizza Wars is….Bertucci’s! Bertucci's beat Giorgios Pizzeria by just six votes, taking home the title of Best Cheese Pizza in Norwood.
