Five Arrested on Heroin-Related Charges

Five Norwood residents were arrested in three separate police actions Friday.

Norwood Police arrested five suspects on Friday for heroin-related charges, according to a press release published to the Norwood Police Facebook page.

Andrew Costello, 25; Matthew Bretti, 28; Daniel Watson, 25; Zachary Foley, 22; and Lindsey Maguire, 25, all residents of Norwood, were arrested by Norwood officers in three different incidents Friday.

Friday morning Detective John Gover obtained a search warrant for the apartment of Costello, at 872 Washington Street. Shortly after noon, uniformed officers and detectives executed the warrant and found a small amount of heroin, syringes, used packaging and drug paraphernalia. Costello was charged with unlawful possession of heroin.

"Shortly following Costello’s arrest, officers learned that an associate of his, Matthew Bretti, was inside his home at 28 Savin Avenue," the press release stated. "Bretti had three warrants outstanding for his arrest, including one for heroin possession, but officers attempting to find him had been unsuccessful."

Officers surrounded Bretti’s home and the suspect surrendered without a struggle. Bretti was charged with possession with intent to distribute a class A drug, larceny, and intimidation of a witness.

Plainclothes officers Christopher Padden and David Eysie then spotted Watson, Foley and Maguire, all of 15 St. John Avenue, in a vehicle.

"Foley is associated with both Costello and Bretti and had been suspected of selling heroin," the police statement said. "He had been under investigation by the Norwood Police Department for several weeks."

Officer Tony Lopes pulled the car over on Washington St. As Officer Lopes approached Watson, the plainclothes officers approached from the right side of the car and saw Foley slip drugs to Maguire. When the officers attempted to arrest Foley, he resisted. Upon taking Foley into custody, the officers found heroin and cocaine inside the car. Foley was charged with possession of a class A controlled substance with the intent to distribute and resisting arrest. Watson was charged with operating a motor vehicle on a suspended license, conspiracy to violate the controlled substance act and distribution of a class A. Maguire was charged with possession of a class A and conspiracy to violate the controlled substance act.

Watson and Maguire were released on bail pending their arraignment Monday morning at Dedham District Court. Costello is being held on $500 cash bail. Bretti is being held on no bail as directed within his warrants. Foley also has two open cases for possessing heroin with the intent to distribute, the most recent on July 25 in Walpole. He was held on $10,000 cash bail.
