Local Massage Therapist to Serve on Medical Team at 2012 Olympics

David Silvia has been selected by the United States Olympic Committee to serve as part of the Medical Team at the 2012 London Olympics.

David Silvia, Parts Director of Central Chrysler-Jeep-Dodge-Fiat of Norwood, and Nationally Certified Massage Therapist, has been selected by the United States Olympic Committee to serve as part of the Medical Team at the 2012 London Olympics.

Silvia is a resident of East Freetown, Mass. His involvement with the USOC began several years ago after he had met the requirements of working at least five years with local athletes and sports teams. After being approved by the USOC to be considered for a two week rotation, therapists must volunteer at an Olympic sponsored event where they are evaluated by the athletes and the team supervisors. After passing that phase, therapists are then put on a rotation schedule and can be called up at any time.

David’s first USOC event was at the Olympic training camp, in Chula Vista, CA, in 2010, where he offered deep tissue therapeutic massage to previous, current, and future Olympians, working a great deal with the U.S. bobsled team, just before the 2010 Vancouver Olympics.

“This is a once in a lifetime opportunity,” Silvia said. “I am honored to be part of this amazing event."

Silvia will be heading across the pond on July 15 to spend approximately one month in London, working with the athletes before, during, and after the Olympic Games.
