Local Weekend Activities: Nov. 11-13

Wine, music and a craft show are on the calendar this weekend.

The weekend is just around the corner. If the only plans you have are not to stay home because lounging on the couch and watching TV just don’t cut it anymore, then don't worry, Norwood Patch is here to assist you! Check out our list of suggestions of events to attend, places to go, sites to see – all within driving distance of home. 

1. Crystal Joy Band To Perform at Perks Coffeehouse

Where/When: , 685 Washington St., Norwood; Fri., Nov. 11, 8 p.m.

2. Higgins Wine & Spirits Second Annual Grand Tasting to benefit St. Jude Children's Hospital

Where/When: , 34 Dedham St., Dover; Sun., Nov. 13, 3 to 6 p.m.

Why Go: Join Higgins Wine & Spirts as they host their 2nd annual Wine Tasting to benefit St. Jude's Hospital.  Over 70 wines will be available to taste while you enjoy delicious cheese from the Wellesley Cheese Shop and appetizers from Dover Market Catering. Pricing: Ticket price is $30 which includes $15 donation to St. Jude and $15 coupon toward order of a case of wine.

3. Emmanuel Lutheran Church Fireside Coffee House Music and Winter Clothing Drive

Where/When: , 24 Berwick St, Norwood; Sun., Nov.13, 7 p.m.

Why Go: The Fireside Coffeehouse features acoustic music from a collection of Boston-area musical duos and trios. The format is an open mike plus a half hour feature from a selected duo or trio.  This afternoon open mike will feature musical duos and trios featuring Finally Friday (Janet McKetchnie and Michael Kaufman).  Refreshments will also be provided.  Please note: The Fireside Coffeehouse is also participating in a "Share the Warmth" winter clothing drive.  Please bring clean, gently-used warm clothing to the show. 

Pricing: A $5 donation at the door goes to a church music fund.

4. Creative Holiday Craft Show

Where/When: 108 Robbins Rd., Walpole; Sun., Nov. 13, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Why Go:  Approx. 40 crafters and high quality vendors will be selling something for everyone and everyone's budget!  Free door prize tickets, drawings every hour!  Lunch available in adjoining pub room.  Plenty of free parking!

Jewelry, doll clothes, handcrafts, photography, holiday decorations, candles, skin care, children's books, stained glass, handbags, pet accessories, kids things and much, much more!  Two opportunities to find unique gifts for everyone on your list!

Visit with Nancy Kearns of North Attleboro at the show! Nancy's "Hayden's Boutique" has a fabulous selection of tutu's, wands, wings, children's hats, headbands, and much more!

5. Guitarist Peter Griggs to Peform at Eliot Church in Natick

Where/When: , 45 Eliot St., Natick; Sun., Nov. 13, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. 

Why Go: The Eliot Church will host "500 Years Of Music For Guitar"  Music from the Renaissance to the Contemporary, featuring, guitarist Peter Griggs,  A wine and cheese reception will follow.  The program will include music by Gaspar Sanz, Johann Sebastian Bach, Bartolome Calatuyud, Django Rheinhardt and Thelonious Monk, as well as Flamenco, Brazilian music and several of Griggs' own compositions.  Click here to view a 10-minute video of "500 Years of Music for Guitar." Peter Griggs is a guitarist and composer from New York City.  Over the last several years, he has presented more than 300 solo guitar concerts worldwide. 

Pricing: The suggested donation is $15 per person.
