The Neponset Valley Sunrise Rotary Club (NVSR) announced Wednesday that Norwood's Matt Brown will be the featured speaker at the club’s annual “Service Above Self” Award Dinner at Four Points by Sheraton Norwood.
Matt Brown was a 15-year old Norwood High School sophomore and member of the Norwood Mustangs Varsity hockey team when he was seriously injured during a game and paralyzed from the chest down. Brown remains positive and focused on recovery.
The Neponset Valley Sunrise Rotary Club is honored to have Brown speak at this year’s event to recognize Norwood resident and businessman Brendan Gearty. As the former owner of Norwood Printing and immediate Past President of NVSR, he has consistently placed “service above self” and has made a true impact in the communities he has served.
The event will take place on Saturday, Oct. 13 from 6-11 p.m. Proceeds from the event will benefit the Norwood Circle of Hope Foundation, an organization that Gearty has supported for many years, and Neponset Valley Sunrise Rotary charities and programs.
Cost to attend the “Service Above Self” Award Dinner is $40 per person. Seating is limited and is on a first-come, first-serve basis. To register, visit www.nvsrotary.org or mail a check, payable to Neponset Valley Sunrise Rotary Club, to PO Box 4031, Dedham, MA 02027. Sponsorship opportunities are also available. Businesses or individuals who wish to honor Brendan by sponsoring this event should contact Event Co-Chairs Mike Thornton at 617-759-0251 and Pat Balerna at 617-593-1232, or email firstname.lastname@example.org.
