NORWOOD BASKETBALL IS AWESOME!!!!!!!

Yes - what other town are you forced to play travel and intramurals - $$$

Well Matt many towns require the kids to play both. Because Norwood doesnt have the numbers that a Walpole might have. And as far as the $$$ Norwood is about $150 dolars less than most towns. Not to mention the free banquet the kids get to attend at the end of the year. And if you were there this year you would see they had a AWESOME time. At least what I saw of it!! I'm not sure where you did your research? But I have researched it and found that Norwood was actually cheaper than other towns. And a lot of volunteers do a lot of fundraising to keep the prices very economical. And I am sure they would gladly let you see where the money goes if you are interested??

Well Steve if you have to research you must have spoke to a board member...I would suggest they put less money into the banquet and put more money into instruction clinics. particularly at the youngest levels

I am not one to typically comment on pieces I write, it is just not my personal style but feel the need to same something about these comments. @ Steve, you are correct. @ Matt, NBA requires travel players to play intramural for two reasons 1) it provides additional instruction for the players and 2) allows them to spend an hour playing with their friends, the kids who didn't make travel basketball or maybe preferred not to try out. As for the cost, and I believe this was mentioned at the banquet, NBA raised $25,000 this year in order to keep the costs low, tournaments free, paid referees and without raising the cost to parents. That money was raised solely by volunteers. Regarding the younger intramural program, and this is my main reason for commenting- I, along with the same four (maybe five) people coached first and second grade boys intramural basketball (third grade, it was the same few people). There were roughly sixty boys, if not more, in that gym every Saturday and no one stepped up to help. While people complained about the program, no one stood up and offered to help. So while, yes the younger program would benefit from more coaches, people have to be willing to put in the time instead of viewing the intramural basketball as an hour of day care or time to socialize..

Kiersten I respect what you said but as a parent you should not have to volunteer for every sport - we have all volunteered at one time or another for various sports. I respect the people that run the league. I will agree to disagree - maybe get more youth volunteers to teach the fundamentals that may need community service credits. less mommy and daddy ball the better

Hey Matt I'm just gonna make one more comment and leave this alone. But your right I did speak to a board member. Because especially on a sight like this I like to have an educated answer as opposed to just throwing some unsubstantiated facts out there. As far as the banquet goes it does not cost Norwood Basketball anything. Between the 60 table sponsors and all the donated silent auction stuff and raffle tickets. It actually paid for the banquet all the eighth grade jackets and all of the trophies and awards. And this year I believe they actually made a profit to bring into next year. And if you ask the kids the banquet is probably the last thing they would want taken away!! So last but not least NORWOOD BASKETBALL IS AWESOME!!!!!
