Time is of the essence as the glass has to be perfectly heated to bend and stretch.

Patch sat down with the man himself, Luke Adams, to discuss glass, classes and jewelry.

Patch: How long have you had your glass studio?

Adams: I began my business in 2001 as soon as I graduated. It was important to get involved in glass right away as a profession and not get sidetracked by pursuing some other career. I started by renting time at other glass studios until I built up a consistent base of stores and galleries that would sell my work. I built the studio here in Norwood in 2006.

Patch: What is your background?

Adams:  I attended Mass College of Art and Design. I started first in the Design department and then later shifted gears and went in the Glass department. I had the opportunity to have some excellent teachers at Mass Art and was fortunate to have apprenticed for some successful artists as well even before I graduated. It made a big difference to see how professional artists worked.

Patch: Have you always been an artistic and creative type of person even when you were younger?

Adams: My earliest memories are of drawing and sketching the things around me. I remember the colors vividly from my early childhood. Creative interests and activities have always been such a big part of my life that it wasn’t until I was much older that I saw them as part of life and not just everything that I was interested in.

Patch: Your Norwood Studio offers classes?

Adams: Yes, we offer glass blowing classes in one hour or three hour time frames. These are offered throughout the week with varying times. In the one hour class you can make a pumpkin or a paper weight.

We also offer jewelry making classes which are held on weekends.

Patch: It's fascinating to watch the glass being blown and shaped. Can people come in and watch?

Adams: Yes they can and while they're here they can walk through our gallery or our store which features the glass work of our teachers and some of our students.
