"The resident there reported that she was missing several pieces of jewelry including four rings," the police statement said. The victim initially thought that perhaps her child might have hidden them, and scoured the house twice to no avail. A second resident of the same apartments discovered jewelry missing as well.

Detective Richard Giacoppo was assigned from the Bureau of Criminal Investigation to assist with the investigation. A follow-up investigation found that jewelry fitting the description of the items stolen was pawned at Dolabany Jewelry on Rte. 1 in Westwood. The jewelry had allegedly been brought in by the neighbor from apartment B.

"When McNulty was searched after the arrest he was found to be in possession of a small bag containing a brown powdery substance believed to be heroin," the police said.
