I'd like to know more about these statistics -- for example are any of these permit holders trained professionals (i.e. law enforcement) who reside in town? Also, these numbers don't say how many legal guns are in our towns but instead are saying how many people can legally possess guns in our towns -- correct?

Since one individual can obtain multiple cards, Norwood's number for example does not mean that 1,020 people have licenses/ID's, the actual number would probably be something less. Still, interesting.

It seems we have some of the lowest numbers in this state for gun permits in Norwood. We have some strict laws. Still agree we need some common sense laws. It is fine that a person has a right to carry a gun. A gun but, why does a person need to be able to purchase 12 guns a year. In other countries only the police and military carry guns. Carry a gun fine. Why does it need to be an automatic weapon that can fire more than 10 rounds or 30. Growing up Police, Fireman and ,the Military were all people everyone admired and still should. They put their lives on the line each day. See and deal with things that a person should never have to. They are people of courage and honor and should be treated that way. Instead they get hurt, shot at and, not appreciated. Shouldn't they be the only ones that get to carry these kinds of weapons and be seen for kind of people and jobs they work. Make these common sense laws. Let people have a gun with background checks. They don't need to be able to purchase 12 of them a year. Who protects the police, fireman, military, rescue workers and,their families each day who put their lives on the line.

I have a different point of view. What difference does it make on how many firearms some one owns or can buy in a year? If you can be trusted with one whats the point of a limit? They already do checks if you buy an exesive amount ( more than 4 in a week I think) you get an ATF flag.
No one is carrying automatic weapons. That is tightly regulated to own. ATF has right to enter and search your property with no notice or warrant. Part of the class 3 permit. Norwood currently has no full auto permits issued to my knowledge.
Firearms with large capacity (30) that is something people own not conceal carry. Commonly used for sport shooting at a range and home protection. Who is to say how many rounds someone should have in s firearm to feel safe at home? If there was a multiple person home invasion who knows how many you need. If someone can be trusted with 10 rounds they should be trusted with 30 or ,,,?
I think common sense would help a lot. Like in NY shooting with the firefighters. That man was in jail for murder already why was he out? I'm all for background checks they already do that in ma. But sure step them up even more. How about tougher sentences for gun crimes? We already have lots of laws let's make them get inforced.

You are right Norwood doesn't have permits for automatic weapons.I meant in general. Automatic weapons are sold every where. At guns shows and even through the mail. As that one man in DC got someone's automatic weapon delivered to his home by mistake and called the police to get it. They showed on the news sadly after the shooting of those babies in Sandy hook the sale of automatic weapons went up because people were afraid of new gun laws. It might have made a difference with 10 rounds or 30. If the man only had 10 rounds.It's heartbreaking. I used to live in upstate New York. Which can be checked. Hunters which are some of my own friends. Proudly show their gun collections in guns cabinets they have specially made and cost a lot. They are locked. I have seen too many deer across peoples cars .Which I don't like to see. A good hunter can take a deer down with one shoot or during bow season one arrow. So they don't need 30 rounds. You are right we do need tougher laws. Everyone will have different views and everyone has a right to them. People who are responsible with guns are fine. Some others are not where does one draw the line. A person does have a right to protect their home as you said but,what if you shot someone by mistake.Children have also been known to find guns and get hurt by mistake. People with guns have rights but, what about the victims? People will never agree but, we all have the right to disagree and appreciate each others opinion. As I do yours.Thanks.

For me the 2nd amendment has nothing to do with hunting. I'm not a hunter. I was also very upset at sandy hook. I have 2 elementary school children. I think we all want the same thing. A safer life. I just don't like the new law proposals that will punish only the law obiding citizen. Do you think a criminal is going to have only 7 rounds? But the NY law obiding person now will. I know I won't change anyone's mind. I am hoping that common sense will be used in any new laws but .........

The debate should be about firearm safety, education and suicide prevention. Almost twice as any people commit suicide by a gun than homicide by gun in the US.

If and when the USA goes into default. And payments can't be made for food stamps. , SS , welfare, and all other public payments. The country riots like after Katrina and other disasters. Who will protect your family as the riots spread across the country? 911 won't help. That is why there is the 2nd amendment

I never said there shouldn't be a 2nd amendment once.Let's hope what you have decided never happens. One never knows. There was really nothing sadly left to protect for most people during Karina. I even said people should be able to carry a gun more than once. Just believe The police and military who put their lives in dangers every day for all of us are the ones who should be able to carry guns with rounds over 30.Even some people who carry guns have even change their minds and many haven't. Ya I hope my last post never comes about in any form. It was just one example I use to explain why anyone would want to own large capacity magazines.
Infesting link you put up. Yes it shows safety first all the time. Never assume its unloaded. Many times its a fatal mistake. It happend last year in Stoughton. A new gun owner shot his younger brother to death by being careless.

Hi Jim, You don't have to say sorry at all. I was not doing trying to do that to you either. We were both just giving our opinion nothing more. We both gave examples of things. Sorry sometimes I would say one or you. I didn't mean you personally. I meant anyone. I should watch more what I write and remember to always write one is trying to do something etc not you.
