Three Norwood Doctors Chosen for 'Top Docs'

Boston Magazine released their annual Top Docs feature today, including three from Norwood Hospital.

Each year Boston Magazine releases a list of the best doctors in the Boston area and for the second consecutive year, three Norwood Hospital doctors have made the cut.

Obstetrician/gynecologist John Al-Jamal, MD, of Dedham, pediatrician Jonathan Caine, MD, of Westwood, and internal medicine specialist Savitha Gowda, MD, also of Westwood, join the ranks of almost 600 doctors across 55 specialties listed in this year's issue.

"We are very pleased to have three physicians named to Boston Magazine's prestigious annual list," said Margaret Hanson, Norwood Hospital president. "The hospital has been honored with several regional and national awards in the last two years, in large part because of the excellence of our physicians."

Al-Jamal practices at Carney Hospital in Dorchester as well as at Norwood. He got his medical degree at the American University of Beirut Medical School and specializes in gynecology and obstetrics and gynecology. Caine received his degree from New York University School of Medicine and specializes in pediatrics at Norwood Hospital and Gowda graduated from Bangalore Medical College specializing in internal medicine and family medicine and primary care.

The busy doctors were unavailable for comment at the time the piece was released.

Top Doctors is based on a survey conducted by Castle Connolly Medical Ltd. in NY, which publishes an annual guide to the nation's top one percent of medical specialists. Nominations for the Top Doctors list come from thousands of randomly selected private practice physicians and physicians in leadership positions at major medical centers, regional medical centers, specialty hospitals and teaching hospitals. Those nominated are judged for their education, professional experience and interpersonal skills. Boston doctors can also be nominated by their peers from across the country.

Physicians are listed with their primary and secondary hospital affiliations and an office contact number, as well as whether or not they are accepting new patients. Details on the doctors' practices and areas of expertise can be found on the Boston Magazine website starting after the first of the year.
