Weekend Planner: Live Music, Giant Yard Sale

A look at the weekend ahead for Aug. 24-26.

 

1. Concerts on the Common: The Oberlander Hofbrau Band

Where/When: Norwood Town Common; Sunday, Aug. 26, 7 p.m.

Why Go: The Norwood Concerts on the Common series continues with a performance by The Oberlander Hofbrau Band. Bring your blanket or lawn chair and enjoy good music and good company.

2. Giant Yard Sale at Grace Episcopal Church

Where/When: Grace Episcopal Church; Friday and Saturday, Aug. 24-25

Why Go: There will be a two-day yard sale at Grace Episcopal Church on Friday from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Saturday, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Only clothes and linens will be available on Friday. Everything - including small appliances, furniture, knick-knacks, linens, clothes, seasonal decorations, books, children's items, and lots of good stuff will be sold on Saturday. There will also be a bake table with homemade cookies, pies, breads and more. All proceeds benefit church ministries. Rain date is Sunday, August 25.

3. Live Music by Damian Israel Shiner

Where/When: Paradise Cafe, Dedham; Friday, Aug. 24, 8 p.m.

Why Go: What started as a pre-teen jamming on a cardboard guitar cut-out and lip-syncing to The Kinks and Def Leppard for family and friends has evolved to become some of the most heart-felt and honest songwriting and performing in recent decades. Damian Israel Shiner grew from solo to Shinerjones, and now fronts a flexible project involving a rotating crew of the "Displayers." Paradise Cafe offers an array of drinks from its espresso bar, and offers pastries, panini sandwiches, soups and salads.

4. Blue Hills Brewery Tours

Where/When: Blue Hills Brewery, Canton; Friday, 3:30-6:30 p.m. and Saturday 2-6 p.m.

Why Go: Blue Hills Brewery makes great tasting beers inspired by the elements and nature around; embracing the rich history of the Blue Hills and the South Shore. Stop by the brewery for a complimentary tour and tasting, held every weekend.

5. Dedham Square Country Market

Where/When: 626 High St, Dedham; Sunday, Aug. 26, 10 a.m.

Why Go: A weekly market will be held at the new "Dedham Square Country Market" located in the Odd Fellows building (next to Nest). The market has been organized by Greg Agnew, proprietor of the Dedham Square Country Market, whose family farm "Lemon Thyme Farm" was a regular vendor at the Dedham Farmers Market last season.
