You Ask, Patch Answers: What is Being Done at the Vacant Lots on Route 1 in Norwood?

A Patch reader wanted to know what was being done at former HQ lot and the parcel across from One Bistro on Route 1 in Norwood.

Each week Patch asks for your questions and queries about things you are curious about around town in Norwood.

Last week, Patch reader Larry Krasner asked: "Do you know what is happening with the old HQ Warehouse site (building torn down). Also is anything going on at the lot across from Rte 1 Bistro where they dynamited all the ledge and cleared the lot?"

According to Norwood General Manager John Carroll the former Home Quarters warehouse property will be turned into a CarMax dealership.

"The old HQ site will be a CarMax sales site. It's a new concept where cars are sold like food in a supermarket. ... This is the price .. No negotiating," Carroll said in an email.

As for the vacant lot opposite of One Bistro, Community Planning and Economic Development Director Steve Costello said it has been approved to become yet another auto dealership on Route 1.

"The vacant parcel has been approved for a new Dalzell Volvo dealership," Costello said in an email. "However, that permit is subject to receiving an extension from the Planning Board which will be discussed at the Planning Board's March 11th meeting."

So there you have it. Route 1 will potentially be getting two new auto dealerships.
