Campers, counselors and parents showed up at Father Mac's on Friday for the annual Foam and Mud Day. Children played in the suds-filled field before rinsing off and running down the hill to the mud pit for two hours of wrestling, laughter and good "clean" fun.
Norwood Patch spent some time at the Farmer's Market in town yesterday, and the Patch Pup made a short appearance to meet and greet local residents. Did you get your picture taken with the Patch Pup? Check out the gallery above!
For over 25 years the Norwood Recreation Department has been teaming up with the Norwood Fire Department to bring mounds of suds-filled fun to the children of Norwood with the annual Foam Day. Norwood Firefighter Paul Ronco noted three of Norwood's newest fire fighters, Pat Moloney, Mike Chisholm and Steve O'Malley participated in the event for the first time, filling the field behind the Coakley Middle School Friday morning.
About 150 runners of all ages participated in the 2012 Norwood Firecracker 5K road race on Wednesday, starting and ending at the Town Common prior to the 4th of July parade. Finishing in first was Justin Lutz, 32, of Framingham, with a time of 15:09.1. The first Norwood resident to finish was Danilo Cordeiro, 30, with a time of 15:57.0. The 2012 Norwood Farmer's Market kicked off the season Tuesday afternoon on the Town Common. The market began 17 years ago and was originally located on the common before moving to the parking lot behind Babel's. This year the market will be held every Tuesday from noon to 6 p.m., rain or shine.

Hundreds of energized, young Norwood baseball players gathered at the Elks field early Saturday for the annual parade. The parade culminated at sunny Kelley Field followed by traditional Opening Day ceremonies, a day of baseball games, hot dogs and slushes - all kicking off another Norwood Little League season.
The Village Green Nurseries you may recall was The Flower Outlet for many years. Mike Molliver and Greg Rapp owners of the Village Green were both employees of the Outlet. The two men went out on their own in 2005 to open their own nursery in Norfolk. In April 2010, both Molliver and Rapp opened the Village Green. The selections of plants and shrubbery come mostly from New England farms. The Village Green has a wide variety to select from.
Over 20,000 runners tackled the Boston Marathon on Monday, despite temperatures in the mid-80's over the race course. According to Boston.com, about 2,000 required medical treatment at some point during the 26.2 mile run, due to heat-related ailments.

The fifth Norwood Basketball Travel Banquet was held on Sunday, March 24 at Christina’s Function Hall in Foxborough. Approximately 575 players, family and extended family enjoyed five hours of music, dinner and celebration of another successful year for the Norwood Basketball Association Travel Program. NBA President Jim Reen thanked NBA Travel Coordinator Marty Odstrchel for his work and commitment to the program, “whose work supporting Norwood Basketball is second to none.” Reen stressed how important and invaluable the support of the high school program, coaches and athletes is in order …
Parents, students and citizens concerned with the current state of the school budget rallied on Norwood's Town Common Tuesday night before the start of the Board of Selectmen meeting. Previously, a large group shared their concern with the School Committee, in a three-hour public forum. For more information on the school budget and proposed cuts, check the school website here.
The sounds of laughter, cheers and music filled the Cleveland School cafetorium Friday afternoon as students, faculty and a few unexpected guests joined in for the third annual Cleveland School MCAS Rally. Third grade students from Jane Catalano’s class opened the rally to Katy Perry’s "Fireworks," displaying posters using the three-word-strategy reminding the room of important MCAS test taking skills. The Cleveland School cafetorium was filled with the likes of Spongebob Squarepants, Judy Moody, Flat Stanley and American Girls Rebecca Rubin and Molly McIntire as second grade students transformed into characters from their favorite novels at the Second Grade Character Day on Tuesday, March 6.  Students prepared for the event by reading a novel of their choice and creating a poster with information about their chosen character. Saturday night's "operation" for state Sen. Mike Rush was probably the least dangerous operations he's been a part of in the last year. After all, it was a party welcoming him back after his eight-month deployment with the US Naval Reserves. Many people came to the Elks Hall in West Roxbury to show their appreciation to Rush. US Senator Scott Brown and Boston Mayor Thomas Menino were among the politicians who attended the event. A lieutenant in the Naval Reserves, Rush returned on Dec. 10 after serving in Operation New Dawn. Rush was mobilized in February 2011, completed combat training, and …

Both the Norwood Mustangs and Milton Wildcats fought all the way down to the end in their game on Dec. 20. With 2 seconds left in the game Milton's Jonge DaSilva would shoot a 3-point half court shot in an attempt to tie the game. The shot bounced off the rim and in the end the Mustangs would squeeze out the win 55-52 over the Wildcats.
Congrats to the boys in blue! The Blue Hills Regional Technical School's football team captured the win on Saturday, December 3, against Cathedral High School. The Division 4A Super Bowl Champions played a tight game against Cathedral at Bentley College. The final score was 16-14. The Super Bowl game was dedicated to two former students, Mike Borreli and Nick Tempone, who passed away. Blue Hills is honoring the football players at a banquet on Thursday evening.
