5K Race Set For New Year's Day
Norwood Hospital, a part of the Steward Health Care System LLC (Steward), today announced its sponsorship of the 2nd Annual “Back on My Feet New Year’s Day 5K” and children’s fun run. The 5K run, hosted by Charles River Running, begins at 10 a.m. on New Year’s Day at the Knights of Columbus (572 Nichols St.) in Norwood. The race is followed by a hot breakfast for runners.

National Alliance for Mentally Ill to Meet Jan.2
The National Alliance for the Mentally Ill--South Norfolk affiliate  will hold its monthly meeting in Cafeteria B of the Lorusso Building at Norwood Hospital, Thursday, Jan.2, at 7 p.m. Mental illness is a label for a variety of diseases of the brain. Often it strikes in late adolescence, devastating the afflicted person and the family. The Alliance is composed of such families who find mutual support and join together to advocate for their loved ones. In case of inclement weather, cancellation will be ruled by  announcement for the Norwood schools. For further information call Ray at 508-668-2941.

Norwood Retired Men's Club to Meet Jan. 14
The first meeting in the 28th year for the Norwood Retired Men’s Club will be Tuesday, Jan. 14, 10 a.m. in the Norwood Elks. President Tom Tobin will again lead for the 2014 year. They will be selling tickets for our 11th annual Valentine dinner. It will be held at the Apollo this year and will be open to the general public as well. The price will be $30 per person. You will have a choice of scrod or prime rib. It will be at noon on Tuesday, Feb. 11. Tables of 10 can be reserved in advance. There will be a limited number, so make your plans early. You don’t have to be  Norwood resident to join the NRMC but you must be at least 60 and retired or semi retired. Plenty of parking. Just walk in and someone will greet you.

What to Wear Today?
It will be a cold start to 2014, according to WHDH. It will be in the single digits in the morning, getting into the 20s in the afternoon under mostly cloudy skies. Snow is on the way for Thursday and Friday.
