RESPIRATORY DEVICE SUPPLIER ANNOUNCES MONTHLY ESSAY CONTEST WITH ‘CLEAN AIR’ THEME

Question: Worldwide, what kills more people than AIDS and malaria combined?

According to the U. N., indoor air pollution causes early death for 3.5 million people annually, and outdoor air pollution kills 3.3 million. Toxic particles shorten lives for nearly 7 million people through a wide range of lung diseases such as COPD (chronic obstructive pulmonary disease.)

To heighten awareness of this phenomenon, Reliable Respiratory, based in Norwood, Mass., a supplier of respiratory equipment, clinical services and oxygen, has announced an essay contest with the theme, “Clean Air and My Community.”

The contest is open to any age student from elementary school to college. A prize of a $250 U.S. Savings Bond will be awarded to each monthly winner.

According to Stan Hurwitz, who handles Reliable’s marketing and outreach, “We have several goals for this contest. We hope to inspiring students to think and write creatively about a vital issue that affects us all; encourage them to express their personal experiences and opinions; heighten awareness of the positive impacts that clean air offers their community; and suggest ways we can all pitch in to an help make it a cleaner environment for all.”

 Entries will be judged based on:   

·        How well the author addresses the theme;

·        Creativity and originality;

• Length and format – Must be 350 words or less and submitted on 8.5” x 11” paper.

The deadline for each monthly contest is the last day of the month. Reliable Respiratory will require permission to use the winners’ names in publicity, and the essays become property of the company.
