SCS 5th Graders Visit the State House

STATE HOUSE – Students and teachers from the fifth grade class at Saint Catherine of Siena in Norwood were the guests of State Rep. John H. Rogers (D-Norwood) at the State House on their recent field trip.  Rogers invited each student and teacher to sit in the seats of the membership of the House of Representatives as he read excerpts from the Massachusetts Constitution, the oldest written constitution in the world.  Rogers noted that John Adams, its drafter, invokes in the Preamble to the Constitution, the “goodness of the great Legislator of the universe.”

The students then debated a bill which mandates a longer school year.  After several students spoke and debated the bill, the measure was defeated by a vote of 7-33.
