State officials are telling drivers to avoid I-128/93 due to construction this weekend.
On Saturday, Oct. 26 there will be multiple lane closures on Route 128 South/93 North between 8 a.m. and 8 p.m. in the area between Exit 3 (Ponkapoag Trail) and Exit 4 (Route 24), according to a Massachusetts Department of Transportation statement.
A minimum of two travel lanes will be open between 8 a.m. and noon.
A minimum of three travel lanes will be open between noon and 8 p.m.
The ramp from I-93 North Route 24 South (Exit 4) will be restricted to one lane during the majority of the time the work is being completed, the statement says.
MassDOT encourages drivers to seek alternate routes, to avoid delays. Drivers that must travel through the affected area should expect delays and should reduce speed and use caution while approaching and traveling near or through the work zone, the statement says.
The work is part of a $53.7 million project to widen a 5.5 mile section of Route I-93/Route I-95/ Route 128 between Randolph and Westwood to provide an additional travel lane in each direction.
