Norwood Rotary Club Wants You

For 87 years, the Norwood Rotary Club has been doing good in the community, and they want you to join them.

"Our goal is to increase membership," said president Dr. LeRoy Kelley III of Norwood Podiatry Associates, in addressing the meeting. "We need to do that for an effective job for the town of Norwood. We have a lot of great ideas (but) we don't have the manpower."

Norwood Rotary is working on its annual coat drive, which provides coats for the needy.

Dr. Kelley said Rotary offers a lot of opportunities to be involved with local programs and international work. They are working in Guatemala to provide supplies for a school.

"It's not hard if you want to be involved in something," said Dr. Kelley. "If you have a global perspective, we have programs."

Linda Marchioni, director of sales and marketing at the Hampton Inn-Norwood, is the vice president; while Tom Colamaria is the secretary; Wayne Zofft, treasurer; and Matthew Leonard, Sargent at Arms. Rotary meets at Kennedy's Public House at the Hampton Inn-Norwood.

Some of the projects they are involved in are Salute to Veterans Night; Norwood Troop Families Support; Citizen of the Year; Meals on Wheels; the Senior Center; Norwood Schools-Hepatitis program; July 4th celebration; Norwood Day events; Concerts on the Common; Morse House renovations; Fall Coat Drive; Boy Scouts Eagle and Girl Scouts Gold Awards; Ecumenical Food Pantry; literacy projects and dictionaries; partnership with the Norwood Police Department for safety and books for first-graders; Roy Smith Scholarship Award; Norwood Hospital; water safety; and Holiday Santa's elves with gifts for needy children.

Being an international organization, the Norwood Rotary is also involved in polio eradication worldwide, clean water and education projects.
