Norwood Theatre to Reopen Labor Day Weekend

The Norwood Theatre will reopen to the public this weekend after over two years of restorations.

The opening weekend celebrations will include a sold-out orchestra concert featuring a Tribute to Sinatra Saturday evening, and two free showings of the classic film "Mary Poppins" on Sunday. The film showings will be at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. and will be first come, first served.

Theater owner Susan Lewis said that there are four shows scheduled through September and October, and that the schedule would be announced sometime during the opening weekend. The first show, following this weekend's opening, will be held on Sept. 15.

"We look forward to opening our doors to an evening of music celebrating the rebirth of The Norwood Theatre," Lewis said.

A Dover resident, Lewis purchased the building from the Fiddlehead Theatre Company in January of 2010. The renovated theatre will seat 731 guests, and now has for adult theatre-goers.

Lewis said that it is her hope the theatre helps invigorate the Town Center as well.

"It is our hope that visitors attending The Norwood Theatre from surrounding communities will enjoy all the Town Center has to offer and frequent the wonderful shops and restaurants," she said. "We are confident it will be a positive impact."

During the theater opening, there will be a on both sides of Central St. between Nahatan and E. Cottage streets.
