ENVY: A Hip Boutique in Norwood Center

Envy's owner, Nicole Vaphiades, says she specializes in finding the right outfit for the right woman.

Envy, a hip clothing and accessory store located at 677A Washington Street in Norwood Center is more than just a boutique.

Nicole Vaphiades, the store's owner is a hands on individual who will work with each one of her clients even if it is to schedule a private fitting when the store is not open. It even says on the Envy website, "Call anytime for anything."

The store is set up like a big walk-in closet. Three crystal chandeliers hang from the ceiling, illuminating rows of accessories, handbags and everything in between.

Shoppers can schedule a "Girls Night Out" evening of shopping and enjoy appetizers, beverages and 10 percent off an entire purchase.

In 2008 Envy was voted Best Jeans in South Boston Magazine.

Patch spoke with Vaphiades about her unique boutique.

PATCH: How long have you been in business and why Norwood? Is your background in Fashion?

VAPHIADES: I have owned the store for six years. I picked Norwood because it was a central location for my clients who come from North of Boston to south of Providence, RI. My background was in jewelry design. I have owned a jewelry company, Envy Jewelry, since 2001.

PATCH: What is your stores specialty and the ages of your clientele?

VAPHIADES: My specialty is finding the right fit for an outfit for any body shape. My clients call me the “Jean Whisper” because I have yet to find someone that I could not fit perfectly for a pair. I really specialize in great fashion tops, denim and fun dress up or dress down dresses. I have great accessories – some of which I personally design as well. My clientele ranges from 20 to 60 plus years of age.

PATCH: How do you dress someone who is 5' 11" and very thin and someone who is 4'11" and curvy? Are there certain clothes you avoid putting on someone who is thin and/or heavy?

VAPHIADES: That is actually my forte’. Every body shape is different and every style is not for everyone. So, I personally find  the perfect fit for your body shape. It is a mistake women often make when they come in and say I want this pair of jeans my friend was wearing the other night. It doesn’t work that way. I always find the pair that works best for them. Again, not every style is for every shape.

PATCH: Accessories can make or break and outfit, what is one accessory that is a must have for all girls?

VAPHIADES: I would say that there is not just one. However; a long necklace (whether it is silver or gold) is a must. A  great pair of earrings that have some sort of dimension, not just a stud. They could be silver, gold or my personal favorite is a colored semi-precious stone earring. I have made an ample amount in several different colors for my store and they are flying off the shelf. Lastly, the stone stretch bracelets that you can layer and layer and layer. You can wear one to twelve it always makes an outfit. I have produced several for the store in all different colors and they are doing extremely well.

PATCH: Heels or flats? Boots or shoes?

VAPHIADES: Heels all the way. Unless, you have some good height then you are just lucky to be able to wear the flat. Although I still say heel all the way. Boots or shoes... both all year round. They both serve such a great purpose why choose when you do not have to.
