Regional Roundup: New Dunkin' Donuts, Stopping Prescription Addiction, Dog Returned Home and More

Medfield’s Board of Appeals on Zoning has issued a unanimous decision approving Dunkin’ Donuts application to convert the former Friendly’s building at 563 Main Street into a coffee shop at the corner of Routes 109 and 27.

Dunkin’ Donuts franchise owner Michael Cavallo (representing DLT Family Limited Partnership), who also owns the Dunkin’ Donuts at 270 Main Street, told the ZBA during the hearing process that he plans to spend $500,000 to renovate the property.

There is a new growing trend among young adults in Dedham, and it may be causing more damage than one may think. 

Since January 2011 Dedham has had 19 deaths caused by prescription drug abuse. And according to , it's becoming one of the leading causes for the robberies and break-ins that are happening in the area since the money is being used to buy these prescription drugs.

After a that elicited a level of local response rivaling that of at least a B-list celebrity whenever she was sighted, Alice the 3-year-old terrier mix dog was finally reunited with her family early yesterday morning.

"Everyone was so helpful on the lookout," Kathryn Gracia Fazzari, Alice's owner, said. "We got at least one call everyday, and at all times of the day."

Fazzari, who moved to Westwood about three months ago, adopted Alice from the Forever Home New England animal shelter in Medfield just two days before the dog ran away on July 26.

A Norwood man was arrested by Massachusetts State Police on Monday after leading a brief motor vehicle chase on Route 495, according to a release from David Procopio at the Massachusetts State Police Office of Media Relations.

Joseph Fry, 30, of Norwood, was arrested by State Police and charged with multiple infractions including failure to stop for police, reckless operation of a motor vehicle and drug possession.

It's been one week since Conrad's opened its doors in Walpole, taking the place of the old Kahana restaurant on Main Street, and according to General Manager Larry Lovejoy things are going well.

“Terrific," Lovejoy said of their first week. "We’ve been really busy. I think we’re getting a lot of people that are trying us out."

The Walpole restaurant is owner Bobby Conrad's second location. After seeing the success of their first eatery in Norwood and with the town wanting to fill the void left by the Kahana, it was a good fit for both parties, according to Lovejoy.
