1. The Recreation in Norwood Committee will be holding an informational meeting at the Coakley Middle School on today at 7 p.m. to provide information and to answer the public's questions about the skating facility proposed for construction in South Norwood.

2. Just because the new school year is here, doesn’t mean the fun has to end. Girl Scouts of Eastern Massachusetts provides exciting and educational programs, year round, for all girls entering grades K-12. Norwood Girl Scouts will kick-off the year by hosting a Girl Scout sign up on Monday, Oct. 1, from 6-7:30 p.m. at the Norwood Civic Center. Stop by, meet new friends and learn about the exciting program options focusing on the arts, technology, outdoor adventure, health, beauty and more!

3. The T.O.N.Y. Awards Committee in Norwood is looking for nominations for the Ten Outstanding Norwood Youth awards for 2012. The program is open to any 10-12 grade high school student who lives in Norwood. Nomination forms are sent to local schools as well as made available to the public at the Norwood Library and Civic Center. Any person over the age of 21 can nominate a student for the award. Nominations can be emailed to Norwood.TONY.Awards@gmail.com, or mailed to the address designated on the form. All forms are due by Oct. 31.

4. Norwood's Public Access Television (NPA-TV) will launch their full-time Government Access Channel today. The channel will be broadcast on Norwood Light Broadband channel 24, Comcast channel 22 and Verizon channel 33.

5. According to the Norwood Police, in the past week to 10 days markers were stolen from half a dozen graves at Highland Cemetery on Winter St. Each marker was made of bronze or aluminum and valued at $30 to $75. Each held an American flag and had honored a beloved family member that in life had served in the military. One marker was stolen from the grave of a young man killed in action during World War II. Should anyone discover such a marker please notify the Norwood Police.
