Lake George - A gem in the Adirondack Mountains of New York.

Where to stay, eat, and what to do in Lake George, NY.

I have many fond memories of visiting Lake George throughout my childhood up into my adult life.  Lake George has a great low-key atmosphere that offers you to do as much or as little as you'd like.  The Village is charming with many fun shops, and it even has a fun old-timey haunted wax museum.  There are many arcades as well for kids and adults alike.

Where to stay:  I personally have stayed at Holiday Inn and Barberry Court.  Growing up, we always stayed at Barberry Court (back then though it had a different name) and my family and I even became friends with the owners.  We have not stayed there in many years so I do not know how it is currently, but it is a tiny bit farther out of town so you would have to drive and park in town if you stayed here (unless you don't mind a long walk).

The Holiday Inn is very lovely.  It is up on a bit of a hill compared to most other hotels which offers an awesome view of the Lake in the background.  It is not that far out of the center of the Village so you can walk if you'd like.  They offer ample parking and I always enjoyed my stay there.  Visit http://www.lakegeorgeturf.com/

I know multiple people that have stayed at the Georgian, which is right next to the Lake and the Village and have heard rave reviews from there as well.

Where to eat:  The best places to eat in and around Lake George I think include S.J. Garcia's and George's.  Garcia's is right in the Village and is easy to get to.  I have always enjoyed their Mexican cuisine.  Right next to it also is a great little ice cream stand to finish off your meal just right. George's is on the other side of the Lake just past the public beach.  They offer a salad bar and the best steaks in town.  I love their lake/mountain décor and beautiful Tiffany lamps.  You will not be disappointed by their prime rib, I highly recommend it. http://www.georgeslakegeorge.com/

A traditional favorite of my family's is the Tamarack Inn.  We always went there for breakfast and they have amazing waffles.  Definitely a must-do! Visit http://tamarackinnlg.com/

Another place that I had recently discovered is the Boathouse Restaurant.  It is right on the Lake just a little north of the Village.  They also have these amazing looking lodges that you can buy a time share in.  The restaurant is quaint yet fancy, just the right mix in between.  A perfect place for a romantic dinner.  Visit http://www.cresthavenlodges.com/boathouse.asp or on Facebook https://www.facebook.com/lakegeorgeboathouse.

What to do:  If you enjoy the water, and let’s face it, that’s why we went to the Lake right?  Then taking a trip on the famous Minnie-ha-ha is right up your alley.  Check their times, they sell out fast.  They also offer special cruises on the Lake such as fireworks.  Visit http://www.lakegeorgesteamboat.com/

You can also rent a boat.  My family used to always rent a pontoon/party boat.  It is easy to drive for those of us that have not done it before.  You can rent it for various times in order to suit your needs.  Visit http://lgboatrental.com/

I have always wanted to parasail over the Lake, but have never done it.  It’s on my bucket list.  Be adventurous and try it!  Visit http://www.parasailingadventures.com/

Besides the cute shops in the village, just south of town are a ton of outlets.  A girl could go crazy there, and often, I have.  It is just south on Route 9, about 10-15 mins south of town.

There are many mini-golf courses in the area.  My favorite is always the “Around the World” golf, which is located on Beach Road just down the road from Fort William Henry and the horse carriages.  Visit http://www.aroundtheworldgolf.com/

Which reminds me, don’t forget to visit the Fort and to ride on a horse carriage!  Very fun and worth your time.  Visit http://www.fortwilliamhenry.com/

In the next town of Glens Falls is Six Flags Great Escape.  It is a great park to visit for the young and the old.  I love their log flume ride as well as the bobsled roller coaster, and Raging River.  They also have an awesome water park too so gather your gear and spend the day!  Visit http://www.sixflags.com/greatEscape/index.aspx

There is so much more to see and do in Lake George.   This is just the list of things that I have done.  You can also do fishing, hiking, horseback riding, antique shopping, and many many more options to dine and stay.  If you have any questions, please just comment.  Chances are I have heard about it or know someone that has done it.

Go visit Lake George.  It will be the best family vacation you’ve ever gone to.
