The following is a list of recent obituaries of Norwood residents.

Tauno A. Johnson, US Army Veteran, POW during World War II
Tauno A. Johnson, 94, a lifelong resident of Norwood died on Aug. 28, 2013. He was the beloved husband of the late Rauha Johnson, loving and long time companion of Sirkka-Liisa Ayoub of Norwood. He was the devoted father of Nancy Koper and her husband Robert of The Netherlands and Linda Johnson of TX., brother of the late Sulo Johnson, grandfather of US Army Major Justin Koper and his wife Marina of TX and Kimberly Koper of RI., great grandfather of Adam Nicholas Koper of TX. Son of the late Abel and Eveliina (Karjalainen) Johnson.
Tauno was a WWII US Army veteran and a POW during WWII.
He was a retired office worker for Bird and Sons Manufacturing Plant in Norwood. He was also a member of the Teamsters Union.

Robert J. Joseph Sr., Longtime Norwood Resident

Robert J. Joseph Sr. 76, of Walpole formerly of Norwood died on Sept. 6, 2013. He was the beloved husband of Lucille F. (Hamilton) Joseph, devoted father of Robert J. Joseph Jr. of Braintree, Jeannette Wassmuth of Somers, CT and Juliette Petrillo and her husband Steven of Foxboro, brother of the Late Richard Joseph, Mitchell Joseph, Nicholas Joseph, Marion Angelo, Rose Gilio, Agnus Devine, and Madeline Joseph. He was the cherished grandfather of Amber, Austin, Brittanni, Ryan and Steven, son of the late George J. & Sarah (Guson) Joseph.
Funeral from the Kraw-Kornack Funeral Home 1248 Washington St., Norwood will be held Wednesday Sept. 11, 2013 at 9 a.m., followed by a funeral mass at 10 a.m. in St. Catherine of Siena Church Norwood.
Visiting hours will be held on Tuesday, Sept. 10, 2013 from 4-8 p.m. Burial will
be at Highland Cemetery Norwood.
Joseph was a graduate of Norwood High School and a US Air Force veteran. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in his name to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 3810.

C. Russell Mattson, Former Norwood Resident

Russell Mattson, 88, of Sunset Beach, N.C. died Wednesday, Sept. 4, 2013 in the SECU Lower Cape Fear Hospice Care Center, Bolivia, NC.

Mr. Mattson was born on Nov. 3, 1924 in Norwood, a son of the late Clarence and Jane Dawson Mattson.

He was a honorable discharged US Navy veteran having served in WWII, a lifetime member of the American Legion and the Elks Lodge.

Mr. Mattson retired as a professional licensed engineer for many companies and upon his retirement was self employed as a consultant.

Surviving are his wife, of 60 years, Constance “Connie” Towne Mattson; two daughters, Jennifer Hallissey (John), of Malden, and Sue Guzzon, of Oviedo, FL; sister, Janet McComb, of Sunset Beach, NC, four grandchildren, Keith and Kelly Hallissey, Diana Heard, and Dalles Guzzon; three great grandchildren, Leighton and Paige Heard, and Grace Hallissey; niece, Laurie Dobbins (Tony), of Shallotte; and nephew, David McComb, of Ocean Isle Beach, NC.

A Celebration of Life will be conducted at 1 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 9, in the Brunswick Funeral Service Chapel.

Burial will be at a later date in the National Cemetery, Cape Cod.

Anne H. Whelan, Artist, Poet

Anne Helene (Hogan) Whelan, 66, of Norwood, died after a long and courageous battle with cancer surrounded by her family, Thursday, September 5. Born in Boston on Sept. 11, 1946, she was the daughter of the late Frederick H. and Anna C. (Bertolino) Hogan.
Anne was a graduate of the Marycliff Academy in Winchester. She was a gifted artist and poet. She worked as an EKG Technician at Norwood Hospital, having started there as a volunteer. More recently, she cared for many families' children in Westwood for several years.
Anne was active in the former Norwood Mothers' Club, serving as its president at one time, and the Norwood Women's Club, serving as its Hospitality Chairperson. She was a Eucharistic Minister and CCD teacher at St. Catherine of Siena Church.
She was the beloved wife of John V. Whelan, Jr. of Norwood, the loving mother of Anne and her husband, Dennis Hayes, of Norfolk, and Laura and her husband, Vasilios Bratsis, of Walpole; the cherished grandmother of Olivia and Abigail Hayes of Norfolk, Adam and Arya Bratsis of Walpole and the late Bella Bratsis; the dear sister of Frederick H. Hogan, Jr. and his wife Janice of Wilmington; and sister-in-law of Eileen "Sue" Ellis of Wrentham and Mary Alice and Donald Hilliard of NH; and adored by several nieces and nephews, cousins and friends.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, Sept. 10, at 10 a.m. from the Gillooly Funeral Home, 126 Walpole St.  (Rte. 1A), Norwood, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 AM in St. Catherine of Siena Church, 547 Washington St. Norwood.
Interment will follow the Mass in Highland Cemetery, Norwood. Relatives and friends are invited and may call on Monday, Sept. 9, from 4-8 p.m. at the funeral home.
