Head-On Collision Sends Two to the Hospital, Driver Arrested for OUI

Police responded to a head-on collision on Rte. 1 early Saturday morning that sent two to the hospital with serious injuries.

A head-on collision on Rte. 1 early Saturday morning sent two to the hospital with "serious injuries" according to a Norwood Police statement.

At 3:35 a.m. on Saturday, Norwood Police officers Timothy McDonagh, Shawn Wilman, Angela Gulla, and Patrick Bishop responded to a head-on collision on the southbound side of Boston-Providence Highway, 1/4 mile south of Everett St.

According to the police statement, the accident is believed to have been caused by a male operator traveling north in the southbound lanes of Rte. 1. Miguel Sanchez Lewis, 46, of Jamaica Plain, was arrested for operating under the influence of liquor, his fourth offense, among other charges. He was treated at the Norwood Hospital and released to the police. He is being held on $50,000 bail pending arraignment at Dedham District Court Monday morning.

Officers on scene called in ambulances from Norwood, Walpole and Westwood. Both occupants of the vehicle traveling south were sent to Boston hospitals with serious injuries.

Lewis was also cited civilly for possession of Marijuana.

For the Norwood Police, Officer McDonagh is the investigating officer. He is being assisted by the Massachusetts State Police Accident Reconstruction Unit.
