Norwood Police, NORPAC Make Arrest in Drug Investigation

(Information from the Norwood Police Department)

The Norwood Police detectives working with Massachusetts State Police and NORPAC detectives concluded a lengthy drug investigation into Jorge Vega, a 39-year-old male from Brockton, Thursday, Jan. 23.

Vega is currently under indictment in Norfolk Superior Court for trafficking in 200-plus grams of cocaine and 28-plus grams of heroin, and those charges were pending at the time of his arrest on Thursday.

According to the Norwood Police, Vega was wearing a court-issued ankle monitoring bracelet at the time of his arrest for this latest cocaine distribution.

Vega’s arrest took place pursuant to a search warrant issued by the Dedham District Court. As a result of the search warrant, police said two vehicles related to Vega and his Brockton home was searched; approximately $30,000 in cash was seized. Vega was held on $25,000 cash bail upon his arraignment in Wrentham District Court on Jan. 24 on charges of: Distribution of Cocaine (second or subsequent offense) and Operating on a Revoked License (second or subsequent offense).

Police said the drug distribution charge is the result of observations made the prior week by detectives who witnessed Vega make a hand-to-hand cocaine sale.

According to the report, detectives seized the cocaine from the buyer just after the sale, resulting in Vega being charged with the distribution. Those charges were filed by Massachusetts State Police detectives assigned to the Norfolk County District Attorney’s Office.
