UPDATE: Two Struck by Car in Downtown Norwood, Seriously Injured

The Norwood Fire department received the call for a pedestrian accident at 11:11 p.m. Thursday night, Norwood Fire spokesman George Morrice said in an email Friday morning.

Norwood Fire units and paramedics arrived on scene to find two parties in Washington St. with serious injuries having been struck by a moving vehicle.

"Norwood Fire Department Paramedics from NA-3 treated the first patient, a girl in her early 20's, for significant head and lower extremity trauma," Morrice said. "The patient was unconcious and unresponsive while being treated by EMS crews. A NFD paramedic riding on E-4 worked with the BLS [Basic Life Support] ambulance crew to provide advanced life support to the second patient, a male in his late 20's. This patient was also unconcious and unresponsive and suffered from significant head trauma."

"Due to the high winds Med Flight helicopter was not available to transport the patients into Boston Hospitals so the patients were transported to Norwood Hospital," Morrice continued.

Norwood Police spokesman Kevin Grasso could not release names or any more detailed information as of Friday mid-morning.

"Crash is under investigation by the State Police, Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Section (C.A.R.S.)," Grasso said. "No charges filed, pending investigation."

Two people were seriously injured last night in Norwood after being struck by a car on Washington St., WBZ News reported this morning.

One man and one woman were taken to Boston hospital around midnight when the accident occurred as they were crossing Washington St. in downtown Norwood, according to the report. A third party was crossing the street at the time as well, but was not struck, and was taken to the hospital for emotional distress.

Norwood Police told WBZ that the driver stopped and was cooperating with investigators. So far no charges have been filed.

The names of the injured parties have not yet been released.
