'Volatile and Dangerous' Kidnapping Suspect Held without Bail

The suspect is a Norwood man who allegedly kidnapped and beat a woman in Northborough.

A Norwood man described by a judge as "volatile and dangerous" is being held without bail after he allegedly kidnapped and beat a woman in Northborough over the weekend.

Judge Vito Virzi ordered Robert W. Ferris, 28, of 410 Buckminster Dr., Norwood, held without bail after a dangerousness hearing in Westborough District Court on Tuesday.

In making the ruling, Virzi said Ferris posed a danger to both the unidentified victim and the community if released, citing both his past record - he has been charged with assault five times previously and has an outstanding permanent restraining order taken out by another woman - as well as the details of the current case.

The police report and other documents related to the case have been sealed, so it is not clear if the victim is from Northborough or precisely when and where the assault occurred.

But Virzi wrote that Ferris allegedly kidnapped his victim and "beat her severely," causing "serious head injuries."  He is also accused of biting the victim and breaking her nose.

In addition to kidnapping and aggravated assault and battery, Ferris faces charges of witness intimidation and threatening to commit a crime.

Ferris' arrest violated his probation in connection with a pervious case in Dedham District Court, records show.

Ferris is due back in Westborough District Court on Dec. 13 for a pretrial hearing.
