Selectmen to Meet With Home Market Foods

The Board of Selectmen voted unanimously Tuesday night to schedule a meeting with Home Market Foods regarding complaints of a smell coming from the factory.

Norwood Health Department Director Sigalle Reiss met with the company recently and submitted information to the Board advising such a meeting. The complaint against Home Market Foods comes from Bill Clough, a resident of Worcester Drive, who says the factory is emitting a toxic smell.

This is not the first odor complaint against the company, which produces fully-cooked, flash-frozen foods.

"This is an intolerable situation," Selectman Helen Abdallah Donohue said.

"I think that the Board of Health has the power to take some further action in this matter," she said.

Selectmen Chair Michael Lyons said that a meeting might be productive in at least providing the town with information on the issue and the proposed fix.

"There's a lot of things that has delayed the satisfaction the neighbors have been looking for," he said.

The motion was unanimously approved but a date was not set Tuesday night.

Appointments to the Housing Authority Will be Made Sept. 4

Appointment to Norwood Housing Authority will be made on Tuesday, Sept. 4, at 7:15 p.m. in the Selectmen’s Chambers. Interested parties should send resumes to the Selectmen’s Office and the Housing Authority by this Thursday, August 30.

Board Approves Parking Ban for Theater Opening

The Board unanimously approved a parking ban on both sides of Central St. between Nahatan and E. Cottage streets for Aug. 31 between 4 and 10 p.m. for the opening of the Norwood Theater.

The finished theater will have a seating capacity of over 700.

Special Town Meeting Suggested

Selectmen Bill Plasko reccomended that the town hold a Special Town Meeting in October because of several projects in town that need more funding - and need the Town Meeting's approval for that money.

Plasko mentioned the Permanent Building Construction Committee as needing further funds to move forward, and said that the Fire Department is also currently under-funded.

The Board decided to hold any motion until further information could be gathered.
