Anti-Crime Success, School Safety in Chief Brook's Report

Chief William Brooks started his report to the Board of Selectmen Tuesday night that the good news that Officer David Eysie has been promoted to Detective.

Brooks complimented Eysie's recent work and said the promotion was "very well received by the rest of the squad."

The Chief highlighted several police actions over the past month, including two armed robberies, several drug arrests and a breaking and entering thwarted by the Norwood Police Anti-Crime Unit. Brooks said that particular unit is a plainclothes patrol and surveillance assignment, with officers in casual dress and non-descript vehicles.

"If you think you've seen them out there you're probably wrong," he said.

Brooks also noted that school safety has been a topic of discussion in town and in the country recently in the wake of the Sandy Hook tragedy, and that while some districts have made the decision to put officers in the schools, he and Superintendent James Hayden decided against such action for Norwood. Hayden thought their presence would upset the children, and that the return to normalcy would be the best course.

 

Retired Traffic Supervisor Honored by Board

The Board presented Jeanne Hennessey, now retired Traffic Supervisor and crossing guard, with a plaque of the Town Seal in commemoration of her 30 years of service.

"I can't believe it's over," Hennessey said. "But I'm looking forward to the future now."

"It's just been a very rewarding, fulfilling job," she said.

 

Licenses Revoked for Failure to Renew for 2013

The following licenses were unanimously revoked as they failed to renew: A CV license for Rama Pizzeria, a CV license for The Sweeterie, and a Class II MVL for Car Group Holdings doing business as Webuyanycar.
