Stephen Lynch: 'The People of Norwood Have Helped Me Become a Better Congressman'

Incumbent Congressman Stephen Lynch issued a statement Tuesday promising to continue to try to live up to the expectations of Norwood voters.

The race for who will be representing Norwood's interests in the U.S. Congress after this Election Day is between incumbent Stephen Lynch (D) and challenger Joe Selvaggi (R).

Lynch has been representing Norwood and the 9th Congressional District in the U.S. Congress for the past 11 years, since he was sworn in in October of 2001 following the passing of Congressman John Joseph Moakley.

On Tuesday, Lynch issued this statement to Norwood voters:

"I think most people know that I have had a special relationship with the families and elected officials in the Town of Norwood. In 2001, I announced my candidacy for Congress from the gazebo on Norwood Town Common. My first appointee to the U.S. Military Academy at West Point was a young man named Dan Henry. Dan was the catcher for the Norwood High School baseball team when I first met him. He later courageously served our country in the war in Iraq.

I've been a frequent guest at Norwood Town Meeting and I am fortunate to have had the wise counsel of John Carroll, Helen Abdallah Donahue, Representative John Rogers, Betty Mastandrea, Teddy Mulvehill and others regarding matters affecting Norwood families, seniors and veterans. It has been a distinct honor to represent Norwood in the U.S. Congress. I consider myself very lucky to have that privilege. All in all, I think the people of Norwood have helped me become a better Congressman. I can promise that if I am re-elected I will continue to try to live up to their highest expectations."
