Norwood's Bernie Cooper Wins Rotary Citizen of the Year Award

The Norwood Rotary Club will present the 2012 Citizen of the Year Award to Bernard S. Cooper at the Club’s 86th Annual Banquet on Wednesday, June 20.

This is the 13th year of the award, which the club gives to honor a community leader who has made an outstanding volunteer contribution to the community, who works to make the community a better place to live and who exemplifies the Rotary motto “Service Above Self.”

Bernie Cooper, a familiar face at all town events, will be recognized for his many years of dedicated service to the Town of Norwood.

For the summertime Concerts on the Common, Bernie offers advice, helps to raise money and early on Sunday night, Bernie is helping with the set-up. At POPS Night, Bernie helps set up 60 tables and helps serve the hundreds of folks who attend the annual event. Bernie also serves as Chairman of the July Fourth Parade Committee, and meets dozens of times a year to work with a large group of volunteers to make the celebration a success.

You will also see him helping at Norwood Day in September, at the Holiday Parade and Festivities in late November, at the Hazardous Waste Day and Recycling Day as well.

Summing up the feelings of many of Bernie’s friends and volunteers who work on town events, Marion Gaw nominated Bernie “as the best volunteer, the most unselfish public servant and the person who this year epitomizes our motto of 'Service Above Self' as Norwood Rotary’s Citizen of the Year.”

Bernie’s Award will be given at the Norwood Rotary Club’s Annual Banquet and Installation of Officers. Bernie’s many friends are welcome to attend the dinner at the Olde Colonial Cafe, Norwood.
