A three car accident at Dean Street and Boston-Providence Highway around 2:30 p.m. Wednesday was caused by a vehicle's failure to stop for a red light.
According to Norwood Police, the accident was caused when a vehicle traveling on Rte. 1 failed to stop for a red light and struck a car driving through the intersection. The collision caused the second vehicle to strike a third car. The operator in the first car that failed to stop for the light was cited. There did not appear to be any serious injuries. A head-on collision on Rte. 1 early Saturday morning sent two to the hospital with "serious injuries" according to a Norwood Police statement. At 3:35 a.m. on Saturday, Norwood Police officers Timothy McDonagh, Shawn Wilman, Angela Gulla, and Patrick Bishop responded to a head-on collision on the southbound side of Boston-Providence Highway, 1/4 mile south of Everett St. According to the police statement, the accident is believed to have been caused by a male operator traveling north in the southbound lanes of Rte. 1. Miguel Sanchez Lewis, 46, of Jamaica Plain, was arrested for operating under the influence of liquor, his fourth offense, among other charges. UPDATE: (12:58 p.m.) Route 1 southbound has been cleared from a multi-car crash that occurred at about 11:15 a.m. Tuesday. Traffic was rerouted for about an hour as crews cleared the scene. ORIGINAL REPORT: The Norwood Police Department is reporting a multi-car crash being worked by Norwood Police and Fire on Route 1 Southbound at Everett St. and University Ave. Police are asking drivers to avoid the area if at all possible. Southbound traffic is being rerouted. One operator fled the scene but was apprehended and arrested a short time later. Norwood Patch will update this story as more information becomes available.
