UPDATED: Hangar Collapse at Norwood Airport
Six vehicles were inside the building, two people were removed safely.
A hangar collapse at Norwood Memorial Airport sent Norwood's police and fire departments to Access Rd. just before noon on Wednesday. The roof of the Swift Aviation hangar at 125 Access Rd. collapsed with five planes and one helicopter inside just after 10:30 a.m. Several of the aircraft were reportedly leaking fuel after the collapse, forcing firefighters to lay down a layer of class A foam. Airport Manager Russ Maguire said that more importantly, two parties were inside the building at the time of the collapse and removed safely by emergency personnel. Police had most of Access Rd. near the airport blocked off to all traffic. Heavy snow, rain and ice had been falling in Norwood for over 24 hours prior to the collapse, and extra sanders …
