Chief Brooks Talks Recent Police Action, Preventing Break-Ins Chief William G. Brooks III of the Norwood Police Department gave his monthly report to the Board of Selectmen at Tuesday night's meeting, including recent police actions, trainings and tips for holiday safety. Brooks noted specifically a drug raid on Neponset St. and an investigation into underage tattooing by police in the past month. The Chief also discussed some recent break-ins around town, and how to keep it from happening. He said that often, people looking to break in to a residence will ring the doorbell with a false story to see if anyone is home. Successful Fall for Recreation Dept., Looking Forward to Holiday Season Gerald Miller, Superintendent of the Norwood Recreation Department, addressed the board of selectmen at their Tuesday night meeting to deliver his monthly report. Miller said the Halloween season was great for the Recreation Department, including events such as pumpkin painting, parents' night out and the new "Trunk or Treat" event on Oct. 20 - which he described as an alternative to trick-or-treating. Miller said hundreds of kids showed up and, in the words of one of those kids, it was nice to have an excuse to wear their costumes again. "It was a huge success," he said. The first night of Norwood's Special Town Meeting was dominated by a discussion of article 5, regarding feasibility and traffic studies on the proposed hockey rink project.
Of the 10 articles discussed during the first night of Norwood's Special Town Meeting on Thursday, it was article 5 - a motion by the Board of Selectmen for the members to approve the expenditure of a $45,000 donation on traffic and financial feasibility studies on a proposed hockey rink location - that garnered the most attention. After nearly two hours of discussion, the members approved the article. Representatives from the Recreation in Norwood Committee began the conversation with a presentation on the process up to this point and their findings regarding the specific proposed location (the current location of the tennis courts at the Coakley Middle School), the benefits to the town and the management of the rink. Antique Dealer Licenses Approved for Norwood Commerce Center At their meeting Tuesday night, the Board of Selectmen finished approving the Junk/Antique Dealers Licenses for the Norwood Commerce Center. The Center, which is at 61 Endicott St., will be open on weekends with a variety of dealers in secondhand and antique items.
