You Ask, Patch Answers: What is Being Done at the Vacant Lots on Route 1 in Norwood?

A Patch reader wanted to know what was being done at former HQ lot and the parcel across from One Bistro on Route 1 in Norwood.

Each week Patch asks for your questions and queries about things you are curious about around town in Norwood. Last week, Patch reader Larry Krasner asked: "Do you know what is happening with the old HQ Warehouse site (building torn down). Also is anything going on at the lot across from Rte 1 Bistro where they dynamited all the ledge and cleared the lot?" According to Norwood General Manager John Carroll the former Home Quarters warehouse property will be turned into a CarMax dealership. "The old HQ site will be a CarMax sales site. It's a new concept where cars are sold like food in a supermarket. ... This is the price .. No negotiating," Carroll said in an email. Used Car Superstore to Build Location in Norwood

CarMax will join the dealerships occupying Norwood's "Automile."

Used car superstore CarMax will be building a new location in Norwood, according to the Boston Herald. The demolition has already begun at the site, the Herald report states, which is 135,000 square feet previously belonging to Home Quarters Warehouse. A CarMax spokesperson told the Herald it could take between two and three years and is expected to create between 100 and 125 jobs when opened. In December of last year CarMax opened its first Massachusetts dealership in North Attleboro, and began discussing a Norwood location on the "Automile." This is a much better location for a Hockey Rink, but of course, that would cost the town money. How does it feel Norwood to have been used by Mr. Rogers to win re-election; you actually think that the State is going to give Norwood $5.6 million to build a hockey rink?
