Saturday night the Norwood Town Common was lit up for the Circle of Hope's annual Luminary Night. The Norwood Circle of Hope Foundation is a non-profit organization whose mission is to provide assistance to Norwood residents who are in need due to a catastrophic medical occurrence. The foundation board members represent the entire community with individuals from the police and fire departments, town government, the school system, medical, social services and the business community. There's no better time to give back to your community than the holiday season.
Volunteering in Norwood is a great way to give back to others and spread holiday cheer and warmth in your community. Donating your time or giving a special holiday gift to a family or child in need can make a big impact. There are lots of ways to help make the holidays truly special for those who are less fortunate. Norwood Police Working to Stop Trespassing on Train Tracks, Recover Stolen Grave Markers Chief William G. Brooks, III, of the Norwood Police Department submitted his monthly report to the Board of Selectmen at their meeting Tuesday night. Brooks said the department saw a couple of milestones in October, including the 1,000th person on the department's Facebook page, the 20,000th visit to their website, and 400th follower on Twitter. He said these milestones are important because it indicates that the community is checking in. In the middle of the month, Norwood Police participated in the Franklin Line Safety blitz, the chief said, working with Transit Police and other police departments along the train line to monitor trespassing on the …

Ernie Boch Jr. presented $30,000 to the Board of Selectmen last week to be used for Norwood organizations.
At the Board of Selectmen meeting on May 15, Ernie Boch Jr., CEO, president, and spokesman of Boch Enterprises, presented the Board with a $30,000 donation to the Andrew and Ernest Boch Memorial Fund. The funding - donated by Boch annually for the last 15 years - is made available by application process to Norwood organizations without an adequate source of funding. "I am very happy with everything you've done with the money..." Boch said to the Board on Tuesday. The application is available on the town website, and must be returned by June 7 to the Selectmen. Awards will be announced on June 26. Past beneficiaries include the Circle of Hope and Norwood Food Pantry.

The board heard from the project managers on the town hall repairs proposed for later this year.
Town Hall Repairs On Tuesday night the town Selectmen heard an update from Dale Gienapp, of Dale Gienapp Design, and Tim Bonfatti, Owner's Project Manager, on the repairs due to the Town Hall building. Gienapp said that although the contractor's warranty is only a year, the work, which won't be started until later this year, should be good for quite a long time. The previous repairs made bought several extra years on the building, he said, but through the natural aging process of the building new repairs are necessary. Town Manager John Carroll said the town budget is currently carrying $1.8 million for this project, a number that will be refined in the coming months, but is unlikely to be lowered. This year's Dancing with the Norwood Stars drew over 500 guests in support of the Circle of Hope.
Despite having little to no dancing experience, six Norwood residents decided to put their nerves aside and step into the spotlight at the 2012 Dancing with the Norwood Stars on Friday night. It took 10 weeks of difficult practice for the dancers to prepare for the night. Still, they all knew that by stepping on the stage they were going to help benefit one of the town’s most beloved causes. About 500 Norwood residents packed the Four Points by Sheraton on Route 1 to watch the dance competition and hundreds more watched live from three local bars. Even during difficult economic times, the Norwood community rallied and pulled together to support and raise money for the 2012 Dancing with the Norwood Stars.
We have all secretly dreamed of that one moment, a chance to shine in the spotlight, exceeding all personal expectations while maybe even conquering a fear or two. What would you do if the opportunity presented itself? Would you run away? I probably would. In the dream we have the courage to take center stage or stand before a crowd, but this is real and you have moments to say yes or no. The catch is that your two minutes of fame will require countless hours learning something new, or if not entirely new, something many of us reserve for a group setting sans audience. On the first day of Christmas, my Norwood gave to me...
As the clock ticks on and Christmas nears, while Santa and his elves are busy preparing for the big night and children eagerly await his arrival, I decided to put my own spin on a Christmas classic. Personally, I object to passing the cost of electronically paying bills on to residents. I agree with Mr. Bishop that the cost is less than that of a stamp but in the long run, I suspect it is not less expensive.
