With a little help from friends and the Civic I might just survive those, "Mommy, I'm bored" days.
It was a glorious long weekend here in Norwood. Memorial Day weekend is the unofficial beginning of summer, and everything about this weekend screamed it. Even the air smelled “summery.” A perfect mixture of sunscreen, fresh-cut grass and steak cooking on my neighbor's grill drifted into my yard Saturday afternoon as I watched a picture perfect summer scene. Joey and his friends were laughing and playing in the yard as only third grade boys can. They were covered in summer. A mixture of grass stains and baseball caps, remnants of an earlier baseball game, along with lots of dirt and a little bit of sweat, was capped off with traces of chocolate from the warm chocolate chip cookies I brought out to the deck, the only pause in their kickball…

This winter was long and hard, but thanks to the community of Norwood I'm feeling a little more balanced.
It’s been a long winter. And last week was a particularly long in Norwood. Many of us still haven't adjusted to Daylight Savings Time and its mandatory spring forward. Mother Nature teased us with a glimpse of spring weather only to drop a little more snow in town. I refuse to unpack the winter boots and gloves I put in the attic last week. Students (and teachers) began, and survived, the first week of MCAS testing and Norwood lost a beloved woman and friend with the unexpected passing of Susan Meagher. Suffice to say, it was a long week. To my surprise I woke on Saturday feeling refreshed and entirely relaxed. I decided I was going to seize the day and do everything in my power to preserve this rare, unanticipated feeling. With renewed …

A little blast from my past right in Norwood center.
During my brief hiatus from Norwood I lived for a summer just outside of Davis Square in Somerville, my ideal for the hub of creativity and coffee at the time. I shared the top floor of a three-decker apartment with two girls and was fortunate to convert the enclosed porch into my own personal art studio. And I was within walking distance to some of the best coffee shops with the softest couches (I said some of the best coffee shops, my friends at Perk’s are still at the top of my list). For me, this was an ideal way to spend a Saturday, or any day for that matter. I would paint, sketch or spend a few hours with my hands covered in oil pastel and take a walk to any of my three favorite little coffee shops to continue my ideal day and …
