Annual library program encourages giving, if not punctuality.
For the month of November, residents who were delinquent in returning their library items had the opportunity to give back a little more than just books. The Morrill Memorial Library's Food for Fines program allows for late fees to be waived with the donation of non-perishable food items. This is the 17th year for Food for Fines, according to April Cushing at the library reference desk. She said the program may have started before that, but 1993 is the first year the November event was advertised and on record. "People really seem to appreciate the chance to have their fees waived," she said. "But also the chance to help out needy people."
