Chicks With Sticks Battle to Raise Money for Coakley Courts

Local Chicks with Sticks group hosts first all female floor hockey tournament at the Civic Center.

The Chicks with Sticks held a fundraiser tournament this past Friday, April 8, with eighteen teams, totaling 150 women ranging in ages from 21 -71, converging on the Civic Center gym for the event.   The funds raised by the event are going to be put toward an outdoor court/rink being built at Coakley Middle School on the old track behind the baseball fields. Laurie Shea, who ran the tournament, pulled this together in a matter of weeks and said the event raised about $2,000. There was a lot of thought and creativity that went into team names and team shirts, some of the most creative including: the Mother Puckers (oldest average age of players with 1979 and earlier graduates, Babes with Balls, Slap Chix and the Hat Trixies. Concannon's Hosts 'Team Timmy' Fundraiser

Around 300 people in attendance to support Timmy Wright.

This past Saturday Concannon's of Norwood hosted a fundraiser to benefit Team Timmy, an organization for Timmy Wright - a six year old boy from Norwood who has been dealing with chronic illness since he was four months old. Timmy Wright suffers from two chronic illnesses, each alone able to cause a person significant pain and illness, but together make for a difficult course of treatment for Wright. At four months old it was discovered that Wright had a rare immune system disorder and then at age three - when he stopped hitting some of the expected physical milestones and started having pain and other issues - he was also diagnosed with Crohn's disease, an ongoing disorder that causes inflammation of the digestive tract and sometimes …
