OT Loss Crushes Lady Mustang's Title Hopes

Girls hockey loses heartbreaker to Fontbonne 3-2 in overtime.

Heartbreaking is the only word to describe the conclusion to this year’s Norwood girls hockey season, for the girls who from the start had their sights set on playing in the Garden for the Division 2 state title. Despite two proven scoring lines with three senior captains, it wasn’t to be. The Mustangs dropped a 3-2 overtime loss to Milton’s Fontbonne Academy, in the semi-finals of the MIAA hockey tournament Saturday afternoon. Fontbonne’s Taylor Sheppard put in a loose puck in front of Norwood’s goalie Christina Frasca to end the Mustangs title hopes, with 2:31 left in overtime. “It just didn’t go the way we wanted, tip your hat to Fontbonne,” Norwood head coach Bill O’Donnell said afterward. Led by Senior Ali Maloof who netted a breakaway goal and two assists in helping the Mustangs beat Sandwich, 4-1, who was riding the coattails of their defense and back-up goalie Brooke Clarkson. The win puts Norwood on to a possible date at the TD Garden in Boston if they can get by Fontbonne in their next game, for the Division 2 semifinals. “All year they stepped it up, they didn’t put their heads down, they did what they had to do, we told them in the second period you really have to step it up,” said Norwood coach Bill O…

The 'Backbone' Between the Pipes

The Norwood girls winning season comes on the back of a second-year starter sophomore goalie Christina Frasca.

Frasca’s goals-against average is .90 with a 10-1 record, an impressive feat for a sophomore player.  An honors AP student as well as star hockey player, Frasca said she loves hockey for the game and also for the community of friends. “I love being on a team, where you have people to back you up and your friends are all there,” said the second-year starter for the lady Mustangs. Frasca started every game last year as a freshman and is considered the backbone of the team by not only her coach, Bill O’Donnell, but by her teammates. “She is solid, she is getting better…
