Norwood Police Log: Stolen Laundry, Inert Grenade Found

The following information was provided by the Norwood Police Department. Where arrests or charges are mentioned, they do not indicate conviction.

Thursday, Jan. 24 7:30 a.m. - Caller on Meadow Street stated she noticed a dirty maroon colored Ford Explorer idling in front of her neighbor's home with two possibly Hispanic males. As she pulled out of driveway they left. She noticed them down by Juniper Drive. Caller requested that the area be checked. Officers checked the area, no such vehicle found. 10:50 a.m. - Caller reported a motor vehicle on Walpole Street. Norwood Fire responded, one vehicle towed from the scene. Police filed a report. 1:37 p.m. - Walk-in to the department stated that his vehicle was struck in the Shaws plaza on Nahatan Street. Grenade Found in Parking Lot of Norwood Church

The Massachusetts State Police Explosive Ordnance Disposal unit was called in for a grenade found in the lot of the Living Waters Church on Walpole Street on Sunday night.

The following is a release from the Norwood Police Department: At approximately 5 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 27 the Norwood Police, assisted by Norwood Fire Department, responded to a call reporting an Unexploded Ordnance (UXO) in the parking lot of Living Water’s Church on Walpole Street. A nearby resident had located a grenade in a family member’s apartment and moved it outside to a safe area. Officers Baguma, Lyden and Wennerstrand set up a perimeter to protect the scene. They were able to identify the ordnance as an MK 2 “pineapple” style grenade. The Massachusetts State Police (MSP) Explosive Ordnance Disposal was notified.
