The NHL is becoming increasingly strict on hard hits, and it's causing some controversy.
We ask Norwood Patch readers a different question every weekday at noon. Questions could range from local decisions made by officials, to state issues, to national politics and entertainment. Whatever it is, we want to know what NORWOOD thinks! To answer, use our comments section below. Yesterday the NHL suspended Bruins left wing Brad Marchand for five games following a hit on the Vancouver Canucks' Sami Salo. Ali Maloof, who had two goals on the night, got the Mustangs on the board in the opening minutes by slapping home a loose puck in front of the net at the 13:32 mark of the first period. Coach Bill O’Donnell utilized a different starting line-up in hopes of curtailing All-State forward and career hundred-goal scorer Michaela Chiuccariello of Winchester. Maloof, Jennny O’Donnell and Hayley O’Rourke started the game up front with defenseman Karen Colomey matched up with Chiuccariello’s line all through the game. “We’ve been trying to balance the lines a lot at times. Two Norwood powerplay goals and nine Natick penalties lead to Norwood win.
Playing five on five is hard enough, but finding yourself short handed nine times a game makes the game a little tougher. In a penalty filled game at William Chase Arena in Natick, the Norwood Mustangs were able to defeat the Natick Red and Blue (3-5) behind two late third period powerplay goals. The game got off to a slow start as neither team was able to score in the first period. Natick however looked to have the edge in first period play, as they outshot the Mustangs 10-6. Natick had some opportunities to put the puck past goalie Jordan Davis, but he was able to stand tall on every shot he faced. In the second period, Norwood came out strong and ultimately put 17 shots on Natick's goaltender Derek Kwok. One of the shots did find the …

Boys hockey beat Dedham 5-1 on Saturday despite six penalties on the Mustang team.
The Norwood boy’s hockey team moved to 5-3-1 on the season by beating out Dedham 5-1 on Saturday night in Canton. The Mustangs set the tone early on as sophomore Tyler Gover sent a Marauder player flying into his own bench with a vicious check at 14:01 of the first period. Gover added a crushing hit at the seven-minute mark that sent the crowd and his teammates into a frenzy. But Gover’s aggressive play earned him a questionable cross check penalty in the first that Norwood was able to capitalize on, when captain Adam Kewriga broke free and put an impressive move on Dedham goalie Chris Dempsey and, using a quick backhand, scored a Mustang goal for the early lead. Jordan Davis was an asset in the net for Norwood as he turned away 19 shots…
