The Norwood High girls' ice hockey team will be facing the winner of the Westwood-Concord-Carlisle in the Division 2 tournament. The site and time is to be announced. The Mustangs are the sixth see after finishing the season with a 13-5-2 record.
Schools are broken into six divisions for high school football, starting in 2013, after a MIAA vote was taken Friday.
This could be the last year of regional champions in high school football after the MIAA member schools voted 161-131 in favor of a new playoff format, which would crown state champions, starting with the 2013 season, according to the Boston Herald. The plan was previously approved by the MIAA Football Committee and Tournament Management Committee, but needed a vote of approval from the general assembly, which took place Friday morning at Assabet Valley Regional in Marlboro. After two years of the pilot program, the plan will be reviewed. The Norwood girls' varsity hockey team advanced to the quarterfinals of the MIAA Division 2 tournament with a 4-3 win over Martha's Vineyard Friday night in Canton. The Mustangs' Emily Kelly, a sophomore, had two goals in the game, including a breakaway goal with 52 seconds left in the game. The Mustangs outshot the Vineyarders 23-18 in the game, according to the Martha's Vineyard Times. The fourth-seeded Norwood will now go on to face Belmont on Monday night.
