Norwood High Girls' Ice Hockey Draws Sixth Tourney Seed

The Norwood High girls' ice hockey team will be playing in the Division 2 Tournament.

  The Norwood High girls' ice hockey team will be facing the winner of the Westwood-Concord-Carlisle in the Division 2 tournament. The site and time is to be announced. The Mustangs are the sixth see after finishing the season with a 13-5-2 record.

New High School Football Playoff System Set for 2013 After MIAA Schools Approve Plan

Schools are broken into six divisions for high school football, starting in 2013, after a MIAA vote was taken Friday.

This could be the last year of regional champions in high school football after the MIAA member schools voted 161-131 in favor of a new playoff format, which would crown state champions, starting with the 2013 season, according to the Boston Herald. The plan was previously approved by the MIAA Football Committee and Tournament Management Committee, but needed a vote of approval from the general assembly, which took place Friday morning at Assabet Valley Regional in Marlboro. After two years of the pilot program, the plan will be reviewed. Mustangs Squeeze Past the Vineyard, Face Belmont Monday

The girls' hockey team will continue in the tournament Monday night against Belmont.

The Norwood girls' varsity hockey team advanced to the quarterfinals of the MIAA Division 2 tournament with a 4-3 win over Martha's Vineyard Friday night in Canton. The Mustangs' Emily Kelly, a sophomore, had two goals in the game, including a breakaway goal with 52 seconds left in the game. The Mustangs outshot the Vineyarders 23-18 in the game, according to the Martha's Vineyard Times. The fourth-seeded Norwood will now go on to face Belmont on Monday night. Belmont, the five seed in the tournament, advanced with a 5-4 win over Canton in overtime. For information on the rest of the tournament, including the full bracket, click here.

Norwood to Face Medfield in First Round of Tournament

The Warriors will host the Mustangs tonight at 7 p.m. in the first round of the boys' basketball Division 2 South playoffs.

The 12 seeded Norwood boys' basketball team will face Medfield tonight in the first round of the 2012 MIAA Division 2 South playoffs tonight at 7 p.m. The fifth seeded Warriors will host the Mustangs, who are an even 5-5 in their last 10 games. Norwood finished the regular season with an 11-9 record. The team is led by seniors Tommy Munro, Sean O'Neill, and junior Daron English, who scored double digits with 10 points in the victory over Walpole that gave the Mustangs a tournament berth. The Medfield team turned in a 14-6 regular season, winning 8 out of its last 10 games. The Warriors are led by starting guard Johnny McCarthy, who recently won the MetroWest region’s 3-point contest and seniors Bobby Hunter, Tommy Conlon and Sam Tawa. To …

MIAA Softball Finals Preview: Norwood vs. KP

The Mustangs take on the Warriors tonight in the South Section Division 1 final game.

The Norwood Mustangs softball team is looking to pull an upset Friday evening in Taunton against perennial powerhouse King Phillip. Here's some of what to look for from both teams tonight: Norwood Mustangs Norwood has been hoping for this match up, coach Carol Savino said. “All we hear is Megan Rico, Meghan Rico, Megan Rico," she said, referring to KP's ace on the mound. "I say, Ali Maloof is as good as Rico, in my mind as coach.” Maloof's bat has come alive in the last two games and she is hitting the ball the opposite way which is her forte.  Makenna Lane has also been swinging a hot bat.
