Coach's Brief: Norwood Girls' Volleyball Falls to Milton

The first match-up of the year for Mustang girls' volleyball was a tough one against Milton.

From head coach Paul Nimblett Norwood Girls' Volleyball vs. Milton Milton 3, Norwood 2 Game Summary: Game 1 25-16 Norwood Game 2 25-22 Milton Game 3 25-22 Milton Game 4 25-13 Norwood Game 5 15-13 Milton Really close match, the girls played hard, some really close plays that could have gone either way in the final game. Some errors that gave up some key points in the match. Player Highlights: Senior captain Kaileen Spaulding went 29/30 at the service line with 4 aces. She also had 26 assists and 5 kills. Senior captain Shannon Reen went 22/24 from the service line and had 11 kills at the net. Junior Emily Clifford served in some key moments in the game and came up with 4 aces 13/14 from the service line.

Fall sports at Norwood High School began practicing last week as the Mustangs prep for their September season openers. Around town, youth sports are also underway for the fall and we want to help share all the great moments and highlights from this fall with the community. We are looking for athletes, coaches, parents, booster club members and fans who are ready, willing and able to show their team spirit on Norwood Patch. NHS Fall Sports Starting Dates Announced

All the information Norwood High School athletes and parents will need for the start of the fall season.

Grade 9 Parent-Athlete Information Night All freshman athletes and their parents are required to attend the parent/athlete Health Awareness night on Tuesday, August 28, at 6 p.m. in the high school auditorium. The purpose of the meeting will be to introduce the athletic staff explain the rules of the Norwood High School Athletic Department and the rules of the governing body of high school athletics - the Massachusetts Interscholastic Athletic Association (MIAA). The meeting will be followed by Dr. Dan Switchenko a motivational speaker, talking about leadership and ingredients for success. Coach's Brief: Norwood Boys Tennis Beats Dedham, 5-0

The Mustang boys tennis team took a big win over Dedham on Tuesday.

Dedham is not as strong this year due to the players they lost after last season, but this win also speaks to the progress we have made as a team. Norwood to Face Stoughton in Tournament Quarterfinals

The Mustangs boys' basketball team will take on Stoughton tonight at Canton HS.

The Norwood Mustangs boys' basketball team will take on the Stoughton Black Knights tonight in a quarterfinal matchup of the MIAA Division 2 South Sectional Tournament. The game will be at Canton High with the Black Knights as the home team "hosting" the Mustangs, and starts at 7 p.m. Norwood (12-9) is the #12 seed while the Black Knights (17-4) are the #4 seed. Norwood upset Medfield, the fifth-seeded team, 62-50 Tuesday night in Medfield to make it to Thursday's quarterfinal match up. The Mustangs led wire-to-wire, hitting seven 3-pointers in the first half and ten overall. Norwood had a balanced scoring attack, with five players scoring at least 8 points. Seniors Troy Sousa-Semper and Sean O’Neill got on the board with 13 points each. …

Coach's Brief: Norwood Swim and Dive at Bay State Conference Meet

The team took fourth place overall in the conference battle.

From Coach Kim Goodwin We finished fourth at the Bay State Conference meet - the highest placing in several years that I know of or remember.     Senior Will Higgins was champion in the 50 yard free with a new personal best time and team record.   Others placing in individual events: Alexandra Metta, Evelyn Metta, Megan Clifford, Patricia Lee, Eddie Hernon, Jimmy Conley, Kristen Folan (diving) and Anthony Rodriguez.  All our 'A' relays placed in the top six. Our 'B' relays placed in top 12. Notable best times by others: Meaghan Shaughnessy, Meg Norton, Tessa Maguire and Natalie Looney!  Congrats to all. Just an amazing season!
