In one week I will be leaving my post as Norwood Patch editor.
Well Norwood, it's time for me to say farewell. It has been my pleasure to be the editor of your Norwood Patch for over two years now, but this will be my last week at that post. As I move on to a new position, I want to take a minute and thank you all for your contributions, your readership and your willingness to welcome me - and Patch - into your community. Norwood Patch launched in November of 2010, and since then we have covered a wide variety of local stories. This is a very involved community, and our readers have always shown great interest in local happenings. I know that Patch will continue to work for the community in my absence, and I hope that you all will continue your avid readership. As always, feel free to upload your …

Feeling overwhelmed this season? Check out the list below for ways to stay healthy and have fun.
It’s that time of year again: The holiday season. There are gifts to buy, parties to attend, family to visit... and it all happens around your existing crazy schedule. This can be a time for joy and celebration but it can also be a time when people experience sadness, anxiety, stress and exhaustion. Here are 10 ways to stay healthy this holiday season: 1. With the exception of one night a week, stick to the same sleep schedule. Don’t try to make up for lost sleep by sleeping late. Instead, try to nap once or twice during the day for 15 minutes. Drink lots of water or other vitamin infused drinks. Use cold compresses on your eyes to decrease swelling and increase brightness. 2. Set a limit for gift giving and stick to it. Use cash as much …

According to a study conducted by the Pew Research Center, 43 percent of men don’t have the final say in any of the major household decisions
A study shows women may have more control over their relationship than they think. According to a study conducted by the Pew Research Center, a surprising 43 percent of men don’t have the final say in any of the major household decisions tested. The survey asked questions about who makes decisions in four areas: household finances, weekend activities, large home purchases and television viewing. According to the survey, only a quarter of men make decisions in more areas than their female partner. In 31 percent of the relationships, the pair split decision-making responsibilities equally. How does your household compare? Tell us who makes more decisions in your household in the four areas.

Chief Brooks of the Norwood Police Department urges residents to vote "no" on Question 3.

To the editor: On November 6, Massachusetts voters will go to the polls to vote in several hotly contested races, but in my opinion the issue that will most affect communities and families is the ballot question on so-called “medical marijuana” (Question 3). If the initiative passes, 35 marijuana dispensaries will open across the commonwealth and people who claim financial and transportation challenges will be permitted to grow their own. I sympathize with people who suffer from a chronic or terminal disease, but Question 3 is not about that. Most professional medical associations maintain that marijuana is not a medicine at all and that it should not be administered to patients. Among groups that have taken formal positions against “…

We members of RINC (Recreation in Norwood Committee) want to thank all the Norwood residents who turned out on October 1st to have a conversation regarding a future skating rink in Norwood. We particularly want to thank the South Norwood Committee for hosting our meeting that night. As many in the community already know, our RINC group has worked for several years – and has conducted an exhaustive site search – to find a home for a skating rink in Norwood. With guidance from professionals in the rink building industry, rink architects, consultants from the State’s Department of Conservation and Recreation (DCR), and with the conceptual approval of both boards of Selectmen and School Committee, we have now concluded that the best location …

The new iPhone 5 may be great, but it may not matter in sections where you simply don't get service.
All this talk about the iPhone 5 has us thinking: sometimes, regardless of how wonderful a new phone may be, it still can't get past dead spots. We all know the areas in Norwood and the surrounding area that we avoid when we want to have an uninterrupted cell phone call. So, tell us: which cell phone network do you have, and where do you lose service? Please make sure to include the town or city, along with the street/area so we know where to avoid!

Do potholes pound your car each time you drive a particular route? Perhaps damage from frost heaves, flooding or nearby construction are a constant issue on a particular stretch of roadway in town? Maybe you just can't tell the difference between lanes on particular streets or the crosswalks aren't clear enough. In our continuing effort to cover quality of life issues in town, we want to know which Norwood streets are most in need of a makeover. In your opinion, which Norwood street (or streets) is most in need of repair? Weigh in your thoughts in the comments.

We all know there are spots where people tend to speed in Norwood. Tell us in the comments section which are the most dangerous and might need a raised section, another stop sign, more crosswalks or another measure to slow down traffic. Then next week, we'll run a poll based on the top five answers we received in the callout.

This lovely chicken salad makes a great topping for crackers or in a sandwich.
This chicken salad is light and tasty, with just a bit of punch from the curry, sweetness from red grapes and a bit of crunch from walnuts. It makes a great appetizer to serve on crackers or as a sandwich. I especially like to spread it on a toasted bagel. Curried Chicken Salad With Fruit Ingredients: Directions: Enjoy!

In the aftermath of the Colorado shooting last week that left 12 dead, gun sales surge in the United States, according to the Guardian.
Gun sales are up following the Colorado shooting last Friday. James Holmes, 24, is accused of firing weapons into the audience of the midnight showing of "The Dark Knight" in an Aurora, Colorado movie theater on July 20. The massacre left 12 dead and 58 injured. The weapons Holmes allegedly used included a shotgun, semiautomatic riafle and a .40 caliber semiautomatic pistol, according to the New York Times. Many gun buyers are afraid that politicans will "use the shootings" to enact stricter gun controls, according to the Guardian. In Colorado, applications for background checks during the three days following the shootings jumped 43 percent over the previous week. Norwood: Do you support stricter gun controls? Let us know in the comments…
