Norwood Police Nab Two For Housebreak on Fulton Street

An increase in anti-crime patrols in the area led to the arrests of two Dedham men on Friday.

The following is a release from the Norwood Police Department: On Friday, Jan. 25, officers of the Norwood Police Department arrested two Dedham men and charged them with breaking into a house on Fulton Street. Here’s how they did it: Due to an uptick in housebreaks over the past few months, the NPD increased its deployment of anti-crime units. Anti-crime is a plainclothes patrol and surveillance unit where officers target areas of town where crimes have recently occurred. Officer Lopes was on anti-crime duty in plainclothes and in a nondescript vehicle when he spotted a man sitting in a blue Saturn in front of a house on Fulton Street. Wednesday, Jan. 9 4:27 p.m. - Caller reported a motor vehicle accident at Everett and Washington streets. Two vehicles towed from the scene. Police filed a report. 4:37 p.m. - Caller reported attempted shoplifting at Hannaford's Market on Walpole Street. Sudbury Police Arrest Norwood Woman in Relation to Oct. 11 Housebreaks

Charges are expected to be sought against another person, as well.

(The following is a press release from Lt. Scott Nix of the Sudbury Police.) As previously reported, the Sudbury Police Department responded to a total of five houses that had been broken into on October 11 and one attempted break.  The investigation revealed two separate, unrelated crews were breaking into houses that day.  Already arrested for a portion of the breaks was Sheridan Bond (25) of 140 Swanson Road in Boxborough.  An arrest warrant has been obtained for another individual, Jonathan Lemay (21) LKA of 303 Central Street in Acton, MA.  It is our understanding Lemay is already in custody on unrelated matters. UPDATE: Multi-Car Crash on Route 1, Road Now Cleared

A multi-car crash led to one arrest Tuesday morning.

UPDATE: (12:58 p.m.) Route 1 southbound has been cleared from a multi-car crash that occurred at about 11:15 a.m. Tuesday. Traffic was rerouted for about an hour as crews cleared the scene. ORIGINAL REPORT: The Norwood Police Department is reporting a multi-car crash being worked by Norwood Police and Fire on Route 1 Southbound at Everett St. and University Ave. Police are asking drivers to avoid the area if at all possible. Southbound traffic is being rerouted. One operator fled the scene but was apprehended and arrested a short time later. Norwood Patch will update this story as more information becomes available.

UPDATE: Mass. State Trooper Hospitalized After His Cruiser Was Struck on I-95

A state police cruiser was struck by a pickup truck early this morning on 95, injuring a state trooper, Fox 25 reported.

UPDATE: 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, Sept. 26 A release from the Mass. State Police this morning stated that the driver of the pickup truck that struck a state police cruiser early this morning on I-95 in Norwood will be cited for operating to endanger and marked lanes violation. According to the release, the trooper had to be extricated from the vehicle by firefighters. "He was conscious and alert but was in pain and was transported by EMS to Boston Medical Center for examination," the release states. A male occupant of the pickup was also transported by EMS for an arm injury. The identity of the trooper is not being released at this time. Part of the Norwood Police Department's strategy to combat illegal drug use in town is using information from citizens - would you call the police if you saw something odd?

Last month the Norwood Police Department released their stratgy for combating the distribution and abuse of Heroin and prescription painkillers in town. Part of that strategy - a 13-page document outlining many different programs and tactics - is communicating with the community. The NPD offers a confidential tip line at 781-440-5181. You can also report information by email at reportatip@norwoodma.gov. A possible identity thief in Canton is the subject of today's "Wanted."

Each week, we'll feature a different outstanding criminal case from around the region. Information is courtesy of MassMostWanted.com. If you have any information regarding the case, contact your local police department. Subjects attempted to cash fraudulent checks on an account that was compromised out of nearby Canton. The victims had mail stolen from their mailbox, which contained several checks. The subject pictured, attempted to cash the checks at the Eastern Banks in West Roxbury and in Brookline (Coolidge corner). The checks were made out to other individuals who have had their identities stolen.
