Who Remembers Roll-Land?

Dusting off a pair of old roller skates, sparked some fond memories of the old skating rink.

I was recently cleaning my attic, hoping to free up some space and make a donation to Goodwill, when I came across something I haven't seen in years - a pair of roller skates. The skates - at least twenty-years old now - were hidden in a corner amid a box of long forgotten but still memory-filled items. As I wiped off the once white skates, now grey with age and years of dust, memories of a cherished Norwood pastime came to mind - skating at Roll-Land. The doors to Roll-Land closed about ten years ago, and a gym now stands in its place. It was sad when word spread that the skating rink was suddenly going to close. I, too, just found this article. I skated 'proficiency' tests - showing my age - there and also competitions as part of the Northeast circuit. So sorry to hear it's gone. BTW, if anyone is in/near Portland, OR, Go the Oaks Amusement Park rink, where I now skate. They have Keith Fortune on PIPE ORGAN playing old-timey skate classics twice a week!   more ›
