Selectmen Approve Wine and Beer License for Norwood Theater

Notes from the Board of Selectmen Meeting Tuesday night.

Board Approves Wine and Beer License for Norwood Theater The Norwood Board of Selectmen voted unanimously to approve a Wine and Malt Beverage license, a C.V. license and an Entertainment license for the Norwood Theater, set to reopen in August, after a short public hearing Tuesday night. Susan Lewis, manager for the theater, said the ability to serve alcoholic refreshments will allow the theater to function at the level of others in the area. "I want to be able to compare the venue with some of the performing arts centers in Boston and the surrounding area," she said. Lewis said the service will not be available for every performance, as there may be children's shows or concerts for young adults where alcohol service is inappropriate. …

Selectmen Vote to Request Funds for Concession Stand at Town Meeting

Notes from the Board of Selectmen meeting Tuesday night.

High School Project Needs More Funding for Concession Stand Tim Bonfatti told the Board that there are only a few things left to complete on the high school, including the front site and parking lot which should be finished in the next month. Inside the building, he said there are about 10 "relatively minor" items that are being worked on. The focus for the Selectmen Tuesday night was on the concession stand, which can't be completed with the available funding, according to the project managers. With the $250,000 available, a temporary or modular facility would be possible, but another $100,000 would be needed for the kind of permanent structure that was originally intended. Selectman Helen Abdallah Donohue said that since the school is …

Selectmen Hear Update on Town Hall Repairs

The board heard from the project managers on the town hall repairs proposed for later this year.

Town Hall Repairs On Tuesday night the town Selectmen heard an update from Dale Gienapp, of Dale Gienapp Design, and Tim Bonfatti, Owner's Project Manager, on the repairs due to the Town Hall building. Gienapp said that although the contractor's warranty is only a year, the work, which won't be started until later this year, should be good for quite a long time. The previous repairs made bought several extra years on the building, he said, but through the natural aging process of the building new repairs are necessary. Town Manager John Carroll said the town budget is currently carrying $1.8 million for this project, a number that will be refined in the coming months, but is unlikely to be lowered. Meeting Notes: Selectmen Hear Department Reports

Construction updates and hearings on department progress were heard.

The Norwood Board of Selectmen met Tuesday evening and took action on numerous items on its agenda, most importantly hearing monthly reports from local departments.  Selectmen first heard the Norwood Public Works Department's June 2011 report as it detailed local construction projects and improvements across the town. Mark Ryan, director of the department, said during the meeting that several projects are ongoing and on schedule. The Vanderbilt Avenue Sewer Pump Station project, for example, began on April 19 and is "mostly complete," Ryan said. A water main fix on Route 1 and Walnut Avenue begins this week and repairs a 14-inch break that occurred Nov. 2010. In addition, department employees continue to keep up on general maintenance by …
