Resident Voices Concern Over Sex Offender Living Near School The Board of Selectmen received an e-mail letter from a resident regarding a sex offender living near St. Catherine's School. Selectman Paul Bishop said that he had spoken with the Police Department, and made a motion to refer the correspondence to the Chief of Police so he can speak to the resident. Selectman William Plasko added that the town tries to regulate these things as much as possible. The motion to refer the letter to the Police Chief was passed unanimously. Chief Brooks and Selectmen Encourage Citizens to Call in Suspicious Activity Chief William G. Brooks III, of the Norwood Police Department, appeared before the Board of Selectmen Tuesday night with the monthly report of his department's activity. Brooks highlighted a recent case where a home invasion incident was discovered after a concerned citizen called to report suspicious activity in her neighborhood. Because of the timely call, Brooks said, police were able to get on scene earlier than they might have been if the break-in had been discovered only when the residents returned home. The officers found a latent print at the scene and were able to connect it to a Dorchester male who was already in the system. He was arrested and in …

Notes from Tuesday night's Board of Selectmen meeting.
Board Approves Removal of Four Trees from Town Common At their meeting Tuesday evening, the Norwood Board of Selectmen unanimously approved a motion from department of public works director Mark Ryan to remove four trees from the Town Common. Town Manager John Carroll said that Ryan had discussed the situation with an arborist, and feels that it would be best for the state of the Town Common to have them removed. In their current state, the trees will grow into each other - causing damage to the trees themselves as well as the lawn below. "I agree with Mr. Ryan, they really are causing problems," Carroll told the board. "As nice as the Common is and as much as we like the greenery if you look close you have to admit it's overgrown," …

Public Hearing for Letizia’s Homestyle Italian There was a Public Hearing at the Board of Selectmen meeting Tuesday night regarding Letizia's Homestyle Italian's application for a CV (Common Victualler) license. Michael Konicki, owner of Letizia's, told the Board the restaurant will serve homestyle Italian food including pizza, calzones, pasta, salads, and items from a prepared deli case. "We want to be known a little more than just a pizza place," he said. Letizia's will be opening at 1243 Washington St. in South Norwood hopefully by August 3, Konicki said.
